My Conversion is Just About Done

I am putting the finishing touches on my 1993 Trek 830 Antelope Converting it into a light tourer/commuter. I have been picking up stuff as I find it on sale. I am just waiting on the new shifters to arrive and after I install them I will tape the bars and we will be hitting the road.

Brooks B-17 Saddle
Bike Planet Fenders
Continental Eco Contact Plus Tires
I have some small nashbar panniers
and a Trunk Bag.

I am the original owner of the bike. It has been ridden by all three of my sons and has been lying in the garage unloved for the last couple of years.

Anyway.....here is the pictures of it on the rack awaiting the shifters.

Looking GOOD!!!! Nice selection of "aftermarket" components - I hope you enjoy the final product and that it serves you well!

Nice work. I had one of those in silver which I beat the livin daylights out of for years mtn biking. As I remember it held up real well. Enjoy the result nice to see someone breath some life back into some old iron.

Looking good! :thumb:

I think the old steel MTB's are some of the most overlooked bikes out there.

I converted my 1989 Giant Iguana and so far have been more than pleased with the results. I have a general purpose touring bike that can also be taken off road on fire breaks and gravel roads with no problems.

This is an older picture, it has been dialed in a bit more since then.

Aaron :)

It's neat to see your build here. My first mountain bike was an Antelope 800 (probably similar vintage to yours or a bit earlier), that I had for a year or so. I ended up upgrading that to another used bike which was a Trek 7000. Those are the only two Treks I've ever owned but they were both good solid bikes. My 800 had Biopace chainrings. Ha! Remember Biopace?!

Very nice bike and it's even the right color!!!

It is very satisfying to conceive of a bike build and then to make it happen. Plus, I'm a huge fan of 90's Treks, both Multitracks and MTB's.

Reaching a little ways back here...

I'm looking at the Conti Ecos, what's your opinion of the tire?

Thanks.

Your seat clamp is in front of the seat post instead of behind. That will place your hips forward, and will result in a big bio mechanical loss of power. I do not know what shifters you will be installing. Assuming you will be using the cantilever brakes as in the picture, if you are planning to use new shimano, it should be noted that the typical shimano shifter/ brake levers, come with v brake type levers, and are not compatible with cantilevers.

my conversion is almost complete as well

Started this project in April. Converting to single speed for now as I save up for the gearing components. I'd like to try a few weekend tours with this setup.

Started off as an ugly *** TREK 820 with a metallic red paint job and really low end parts. The only thing stock on this bike is the QR seatpost/wheel skewers. Had the frame/fork powder coated.

Years ago I had J and D racks and bags. Sold them all back then. This time I plan to go with VO front/back.

Edit: I may go with a shorter stem.

Ignore the cheap pedals. Only use them to fit/adjust the bike. :D
