Extra long rear racks?
 

I commute on a road bike with 415mm chain stays. This isn't long enough for panniers, given my size 15 feet.

I currently use a trunk bag, which is fine for commuting, but limiting for grocery runs on my way home. While I'd love to have an excuse to buy a new bike, I figured I'd explore other options first. So are there extra long racks out there? I'm looking for a rack that would let me put the panniers farther back an inch or two or three.

I'm using a topeak super tourist rack right now. It's 34cm long. I really like the topeak quick release system for the trunk bag, but I'm definitely willing to give it up for overall versatility.

An idea for you perhaps. What about spreading the load about with a handlebar bag and a large saddlebag? No idea what your setup or requirements like, but might work.

+1 43cm long. I put one on my old cyclocross bike to get my panniers back far enough to avoid heel strike.

I also have size 51 feet. I found that even long'ish chainstays don't provide enough clearance for my heals. My solution was to find panniers with a rear upper hook that could be unbolted and moved slightly forward on the bag and with elastic lower hooks that could also be moved forward. Thereby, alllowing me to move the bags as far aft as possible. I'm don't know what current design fit these requirements. I'm still using an old pair of Madden bags.

Do you have eyelets on your road bike's front fork by any chance? Instead of going with a rear rack, consider going with a front pannier racks instead. No heel strike issues.

OP sounds to me like one for 'Car Free Living'.

Maybe smaller rear panniers instead of a longer rack?

the issue is location..

Just move the whole rack you have further back , Fabricate, DIY, a few pieces to do that .

longer top struts + a couple extension pieces between the rack & the dropouts


& panniers on the front certainly won't interfere with your Sz 15s
