I'm a big fan the UV purification devices, although they are not without their faults. For starters, they (or any sort of purification device) just aren't necessary on most tours. If you're never far from potable water, why bother? They are another electronic device to fail, but in my experience, they are pretty damn reliable. I've only ever had trouble when the batteries are running low, and even then, I can still pretty easily get another weekend trip out of them. I do carry a few iodine tablets, just in case, but I think I would carry them anyway.

I just wish it weren't so heavy to carry a tour's worth that way.
