Regents of the University of California v. Bakke - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

but that was University Law School Placement , not summer camp (on bikes).

Ah, thanks. Interesting. Last week the head of Adv Cycling was in the Philly area (Jenkintown) giving a presentation, and I went to check it out. He mentioned these classes and the scholarships, and specifically noted they were developed in order to get a younger generation interested in bike touring, or, I presume, at least in the ACA. The demographic of the meeting last week definitely skewed to an older crowd. I'm in my mid-40s, and I was definitely one of the younger ones there.

Jim was at a party I attended Saturday night. I was supposed to go out to Jenkintown but couldn't make it. I am 49. Their membership is definitely skewed to the older end of the spectrum. Getting younger people interested in touring is important to their continued success and part of their mission.

BTW...At the party, Jim mentioned that after they are done working on whatever national bike route corridor they are currently finishing up, they are going to turn their attention to Chicago to New York City. I helped them with their redesign of the New Hope to SRT section of the Atlantic Coast route. I may be able to lend a hand for CHI-NYC.

I was going to pass this on to my daughter, an up and coming tourer, until I saw that it appears to be more need based than merit based so I'm figuring she may be out unless her income is what is considered.

Gap Year Travel , between Highschool and College seems more a European tradition ..

Picking a school in senior year going and entering college directly,

then the Post college debt repayment demands, is where the US apparently pushes.

Or, having the Military recruiter sign you up while still in school..

The scholarships are for the classes, not for taking gap travel.
