Thoughts/Opinions for real time trip reporting in Western Europe

I'm in the early planning stages of a Western Europe (roughly Italy to The Netherlands...ish) trip next summer. I'm trying to decide on the best web-based journal/real time reporting platform(s) to use. I would welcome some feedback based on personal experience from that region within the last few years.

I'm comfortable with CBOAB and have used Wordpress for blogs. I also do FB but have yet to jump into Twitter or Instagram. I'm using a Samsung s5 and love it for the camera and size. My typing sucks on it but I can get by if I concentrate.

I also have a 4 plus year old EeePC netbook that still works ok. My digital camera is also 6-7 years old.

My goal is to be able to keep in regular contact with friends and family back in the states with pictures and stories without being obligated too much to chat a lot.

I realize this is all fairly random...I guess I'm just interested in some feedback to help me decide what my best options might be. I could buy new gear if I have to but I'd just as soon use the money for good beer/wine. Thanks in advance!

Rowan and I did a tour through Europe a couple years ago, and I used my own website and Flickr and put a bit of an update on Facebook.

My own website: Charlene Barach (Machka) - 2012 Round the World Tour

I used a little Nikon Coolpix point & shoot camera which served me remarkably well given that it was not very expensive. I bought it just a few months before our trip.

And I used a small netbook or notebook to work with the photos, type the days events, and access the internet.

If you're used to blogging with Wordpress already, you might stick with that ... and as for the photos, I'd recommend using a site like Flickr. It's really easy to upload the photos and add a few comments about each if you want. And check out the new point & shoot cameras ... they are a reasonable price now for something quite small yet decent.

I use ScribeFire, an addon for Firefox (and Chrome as well) as an offline blogging tool. It will tie in to WordPress, Blogger and other platforms. You can do simple image inclusion into posts, it isn't sophisticated to create galleries (I only have a WP blog so I can only comment on WP features that ScribeFire may or may not have). It might be something to consider.

ha....tried that....still have the stamps from my attempt at that 3 years ago . When I first began to dream about doing something like riding my bike for more than one day at a time, I received a tremendous amount of inspiration from folks on the web and would like to give back a little bit. It's also damn fun to have it as a resource to lean on when I get a chance to talk to someone about the power of the simple bicycle.

For just family and friends, Facebook is pretty easy to use on a small mobile device. I think of it as "microblogging." That's what we used when we were in Europe for a month last year.
