Best Flip Flops for Men

Hi folks.

I'm looking for some flip flops that won't piss me off.

I've owned a couple of cheap pairs that I bought while on tour and wow they can really do some damage to your feet. I like them for go-to walking around the campsite, into showers, and that sort of thing. Even beach wear. But I'm looking for a comfortable pair that don't make me look strange.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I had something for you until you said "look strange." I've been using Vibram FiveFingers as camp shoes. the EL-X are basically water shoes.

My brother George wears REEF flip-flops 6 months out of the year, and when they eventually die after a few summers, he gets the exact same pair. They have a bottle opener in the sole, too.

Yeah I get enough looks as a cycle tourist already, even when just meandering about. I like to remain invisible as much as possible. But thanks for the idea.

As my old Mum used to say, "Always line the toilet seat and always wear your flip-flops in the shower."
But for me; having something between my toes is a big No-No. I find the sandals with the broad band across the lower in-step much more comfortable.

How do we know you don't already look strange without flip flops? ;)

I am nearly 50. I have never done the former and infrequently do the latter. How have I survived without incident?

My mother will be turning in her grave; worried sick about you!

BeeRich 02-03-15 09:13 AM

OK, might be a good call. Any suggestions? Shower compatible.

BeeRich 02-03-15 09:13 AM

Are you kidding? I'm very good looking. It's my sense of humour people cringe at.

I've been thinking of picking up a pair of crocs as camp shoes. They're light weight and they can be used for bike riding if need be.

BeeRich 02-03-15 09:32 AM

I find them bulky and fugly. I owned a competitor shoe business to Crocs. Flip flops or sandals are what I would be using. I need them to be public as well, and I might want to get into restaurants or bars.

Shower compatible and SPD equipped but at the price of 25 pairs of flip-flops you could try these from Keen.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=432241http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=432242

Yeah they are overkill. Price isn't the issue nor a deciding factor of an excellent shoe. I'm looking for a second pair. I don't go clipless on tour either. I have Merrelss on flat pedals with these:

How About slides ? the ones most Soccer shoe makers sell , to wear after the Match.

BeeRich 02-03-15 10:31 AM

I don't know what a slide is.

BeeRich 02-03-15 10:45 AM

Teva sandals are more practical.

BeeRich 02-03-15 11:13 AM

Than flip flops? I own some Teva sandals and I'd rather have something much lighter.

Salomon Techamphibians are very airy and are designed to also be used as open sandals and your toes are protected which is very essential

Croc rip-offs.

rumrunn6 02-03-15 12:12 PM

my summer foot gear for camping, etc incl 3 different styles, cheap flip flops, teva style sandals (just straps including around heel) & then fisherman style sandals (mostly closed like the ones Lou suggested above)

I've bought cheap flip-flops while traveling and have suffered the consequences. Would it kill the manufacturer to take the sharp edges off the segment that goes between the toes?

I found that Teva makes a very nice flip-flop:

Comfortable enough to walk around camp, to the shower, in the shower, etc. Heck, you could probably ride with 'em.

I never found Crocs bulkiness to be a problem, just hang them on the outside of your panniers. As far as being ugly, choosing a drab or dark color goes a long way toward mitigating that. I have owned black ones, navy ones, and gray ones and don't think they stood out that much especially if you wear dark socks when you go somewhere that you don't want to stand out. I never hesitated to go anywhere I would go on tour in my Crocs including into museums and nicer restaurants.

That said I have taken to just wearing my bike shoes (Sidi Gaiu with spd cleats) for everything on some of my recent tours.
