Istanbul to Greek island of Syros: Greek or Turkish route?
This June three friends and I will be departing from Istanbul and heading toward an as yet undetermined southern latitude where we will catch a ferry to the Greek island of Syros. The question is, will that ferry be Greek or Turkish?
The initial assumption was that we would follow the Greek coast down to Athens. However, we've subsequently received an email from a friend in Syros recommending the Turkish route (no explanation why). And indeed , just judging by the available internet feedback, Turkey does seem to be the more popular option.
Surely neither is a bad option. But if you have any insights on which route may be more enjoyable for four wholly inexperienced but relatively fit and capable mid-twenty yr old bike tourists, please send them my way!
Thanks everyone.

Cycle Touring Club, in UK over 100 years , is much closer , being on the other side of the Pond, so I would Inquire there If I were You.
The national cycling charity | CTC
EU Central Bank Imposed Austerity would certainly make you coming there and spending Money, Welcome.
Though High Unemployment as a result would suggest a heightened need to be aware , as they are short on funds .
Many years ago I got a lesson from a pickpocket in the airport on my way Home , so after that I kept my valuables in a money belt under my Clothes ..

I would most definitely go via Turkey. Go as far south as Marmaris, take ferry to Rhodes and from there a ferry to Syros. It's hilly all the way but nothing too serious, you will be rewarded with some great scenery a with lots of stuff to see on the way.
