World cup chat
World cup starts this weekend in Cali. Looks like wiggo is down there taking pictures with everyone.
But sad news today
Canadian Cyclist hugo-barrette-out-of-world-cup-after-crash
200lbs @ 70kmh, rolled a tire, bent the guard rail on his way out, landed unconscious. Bike is destroyed.
This is just after 2 weeks ago we lost our omnium rider to a broken collarbone in training back home. We are off to a rough start... lol

First, he is ok. No broken bones, likely concussion and bruised up pretty bad. But this picture breaks my heart, I see this guy most days and his legs are my hero!

yeah, that's hard to see. I'm glad he sounds like he's doing better than he looks there. here's hoping for a swift recovery.

He wears a Kask Bambino but not sure where/what happened to it in this pic (or why someone stopped to snap a pic instead of helping him lol)
On a positive it looks like a lot of the big names are down there for this weekend. Could be a pretty good Rio preview!

And actually most of that is the women's TP squad. Only 2 US men went.
It was the same story with PanAm games here. You could drive here from T-town, but I think Sarah and Matt were the only US track riders here. When I talked to someone who could have done the omnium, he was asked by USAC if he wanted to go and when he found out it was 100% on his dime, he decided to stay in europe and keep racing for his usual sponsors.
This goes back to my point, it costs a lot to develop a TP squad (5+ riders), where a sprinter is a good back-for-buck. I think USAC #1 priority should be building a women's TS squad that can also keirin and match sprint. 2 riders can put the entire program on the map and gain that momentum back.

Looks like Baranoski.
What's the deal with Lea? Does he have enough points for the olympics now? This stuff confuses me.

Its something like that. technically there are 3 rounds of world cup and only your 2 best count towards your UCI total, so there could be guys waiting, although Cali is easier to race than NZ and Japan which are the next 2 rounds...
US women had an amazing performance in the TP getting 2nd place. Something like 15 seconds faster than a year ago I heard

Indeed, loved seeing Vogel at the European Championships. She was doing well then got a bit unlucky in the semi final when she was relegated for leaving the sprinter's lane.

Top 10 women in a world cup all under 11s. Crazy.
And the small US team is making their presence felt. Silver in Women's TP, Bronze in Women's Scratch for Valente, Baranoski won his first heat in Keirin.
