Sept. 23rd, 9 UCI hour record challengers in Milton
What started out as my friend challenging for the master's D , 65 to 69 record has grown to 9 challengers in 9 categories, the oldest in his 90s.
This will follow about a month after Marinoni goes for another record, and yes, one of the challengers will be gunning for his category. (80 to 85)
There will be a web site and facebook page put together shortly. I'll post links when they are up.
It will be a long day, but I'm looking forward to being part of it.
(No, I'm not one of the challengers.)

Nice to see that there is interest in the Hour at a "grassroots" level. Best of luck to all during their attempts!

Nice. I set the hour record at our track a couple years ago, but it was just a target to be shot down by someone else a year later. ;-)

A bit of an update on this.
Michael Kolesar, who is the driving force behind the event, and one of the competitors has created a facebook page.
https://www.facebook.com/TheDayoftheHour/
He has received permission to use the Canada 150 logo and to promote the event as part of Canada's 150th anniversary.
The number of competitors has been pared down to seven as Cycling Canada felt 9 was too many to crowd into one day.

Looks like fun!
I'm thinking you guys are going to want to cross the river to try out our new indoor velodrome in Detroit this winter. The actual track goes up in a couple of weeks.
(my hour record was just a local track record - largely successful because not many people had attempted it yet, lol. It's tempting to do it again, but I'm not old enough for your crowd, I'm not canadian, and your roster is full!).

Well, I can now tell everyone that Marinoni will be back to join this group for another attempt at the hour record.
So, there will now be 8 attempts in one day.

Well, this Saturday is the day. I can tell you that Michael Kolesar has been busting his butt to bring this together. I just hope he can get some rest this week so he has enough gas in the tank to crank out his hour.
He was able to get Mercedes Benz on board as a sponsor, so that has really helped out.
Giuseppe Marinoni is expected to arrive in town tomorrow to prepare for his attempt.
Tickets are free through Event Brite for anyone interested in attending.

I will be on site all day as a volunteer, so if you see me, be sure to say hello.

Thanks for the vid! I would have gone as I was in the province but up north. It's great to see events like this come back. It almost seems like the really hard individual events are going the way of the dodo.

Anyway, out of 8 competitors, we now have 4 Canadians with world hour records in their age categories, and the other 4 all set Canadian records.
It was a great day for Canadian Cycling.

Well, it takes dedicated individuals to keep the tradition alive, and that's what we saw here. My friend, Michael Kolesar was the driving force behind the event, but he could not have pulled it off without a lot of help from others.

I saw that the mens 40-44 record was broken, but that is all I saw.
Thanks.
