I once knew a masters guy who said he was mostly sticking to crit racing because track was too sketchy, which sounded insane to me, but maybe the fields are different.

I want my 20 minutes back. It's my own fault. I was sitting in my car in the rain waiting for a craigslist seller of a Kickr trainer. My youtube feed decides to auto play some durianrider stuff. It was mostly about him not believing that Gaimon is clean. To him "cookie man".

Some of the claims he makes, to someone who doesn't hangout in the 33 and on Slowtwitch all the time, may seem very plausible. Guilt by association, claims about some of his numbers, etc......

But, hanging out on ST all the time has taught me to look at performances with a grain of salt. In his video he juxtaposes Phil's 450w for 10min up some climb for a KOM to Lance, and himself. Claiming that's what Lance used to do. Uhmmm, pretty sure the Ventoux times are around an hour and for Lance and the people durianrider uses were at powers higher than Phil can do for 10min.

He also goes on to say that he starts to question people who can do more than he can do. OK. If we all did that then half the cycling world would be dopers. The powers he says he can do aren't very Earth shattering at all. He was talking about he's ridden his whole life and could either barely do or couldn't do 350 or 320 for 10min?

I've ridden for just 3 years of which 2 and a half trained and I can do 3x3' sets at 350 and if you put a gun to me I could probably do 320 for 10min today. That's totally unremarkable stuff. But, some local yokel clubbie would be "suspicious" by that logic.

Right......

What's your point? And what does this have to do with track racing?

I said it was my fault for listening to the YouTube video. It was a wild tangent since this was the Phil track topic.

But thanks for the updated Phil video link, hadn’t seen that yet.

I would say the vast majority of things you see on the 33 and ST show that most of the posters are pretty inexperienced. Even the ones who dispense advice. Not that inexperience is a bad thing -- just that 33 and ST is a pretty low bar for getting a pulse on what's happening in the cycling world.

ST is a cesspool of "anyone better than me is cheating/doping".

I'm always amazed to find that the most innocuous sports/activities still have people with sh*tty attitudes.

Some tennis forums are as vicious as NFL or NCAA Football forums.

Not sure what is worse. Living vicariously through other adults paid millions to play a game or to entirely define your self worth through your own sport and recreation.
