Minneapolis/Blaine Velodrome?
I'm a newbie to track racing and I'll be moving to the Twin Cities for grad school and I was interested in the Blaine Velodrome.
Anyone here train/race there? What is it like? Are there many beginners? When does the season begin/end? Since it looks like it is outdoors, I'm assuming that this Velo will be closed during winter. Are there any indoor velodomes? Thanks for any help. |
The website for the Blaine velodrome is here: http://www.nscsports.com/velo/
I took the intro class and started racing there this year. It is outside, so the season goes into September and starts up again in May. There aren't a ton of people, so they are always looking for more. It seems like a lot of the people up there also do road racing, but they are getting more fixed-gear riders who are trying it out. |
Thanks gilby.
I think I read that you are going to check out Marymoor? I really missed Marymoor. What a supportive community. I'm the quiet sort, but the few people I met on open nights were friendly and patient with a newbie. During the summer race season, you get quite an electric vibe at times. |
I think you'll like the vibe at the NSC velodrome. It seems like they are so happy any time there is a new person who shows up--they made me feel very welcome.

I could say the same thing about the Marymoor folks.
You'll like it in Seattle. Tons of bikes around, tons of shops, big community. |
