taking a class necessary to get started in track racing?

Hi, i'd like to get started in track racing as we have one not too far from ann arbor mi. my question: is it necessary to take (and pass) some sort of beginners class in racing on the track? i'm guessing you'd need some sort of uscf liscense, but is that it? thanks!

I've raced that track in Rochester Hills. You will need to take a Track 101 course. Saturday mornings at 10 am. They will not let you ride without it and any beginner should really take that course for that track as it is steep and you need to learn how to ride it. If it's your first time at the track, your class and rental is free, after that it's 5$ for the rental, and 10$ to ride. You will also learn the necessary track "etiquette" too. Take the class, they have some racing afterwards too, and you will definitely be hooked.
