UCI World Cup Classic Jan 20-22 ADT Center
It looks like they have finally posted up the schedule of events for the World Cup Classics.
There will be five sessions of racing: Friday: 10a-2:30p Friday: 6p-9:25p Saturday: 10a-2:45p Saturday: 6p-8:55p Sunday: 11a-2:05p Go to this site to download the PDF of all the races and times so you can pick which sessions you really want to make if not all of them. http://www.homedepotcenter.com/event...categoryid=406 It looks like ticket prices range from $30.50 to $18.50 per session (reserved vs GA), or all 5 sessions are also available at a lower price. I've never attended a paid race at the ADT. Are reserved tickets all the seats and GA standing room? Or if you get GA are there some seats available? Maybe I can just strap on my camp chair and ride it on down :) On the way back from a ride yesterday I stopped at a shop and noticed that you can get GA tickets as low as $15 per session. This should be a great time to watch some phenominal racing and maybe pick up a few pointers as well. Hope to see some of you there. Roll Call....... |
Any television coverage?
|
I'm there !!!!!! Going on Saturday with some club members from my local bike club.....
See ya there!!! Mack :D |

The high price seats are usually the two sections on either side of the finish line, and extend through much of turn 1 (they vary it from event to event). I think GA seats were part of the back straight and turn 3, and maybe part of turn 4. Everything else is reserved seating. Personally, I can't sit still when I watch a track race there-- I have to move around to different seats. I really like being at the top of turn 2, about halfway through. You have a clear view of the finish line, and you also have a cool view along the banking, and can see the riders up close when they pull up to the top and slow down. I watched most of the madison at worlds from the stairs on the back straight, and was sitting next to a bunch of the british women (the brits won by taking a lap) so that was kind of cool. In the corners there are only one or two rows of seats, so you can stand behind them and get a great view. If I weren't working all the sessions I'd probably get an all session GA pass. My team did a group buy for the Saturday night of Worlds, and I don't think I spent more than 15 minutes in the seat. |
woo hoo! i'll be there for the saturday and sunday sessions.
is smuggling beer into the event out of the question? |
I wish those CS were broadcasted :(
I envy u guys... :( |
i have a personal seat license at the ADT for row 1 seats 11,12,13,14 on the pursuit line on the home streach.
they are pretty rad. i didn't get tickets for this event, but i am planning ahead for the next worlds... as far as tv coverage...yeah right! you have to be in europe or australia for that... the local la stations didn't even mention that the world championships were going on last year! word. |
what's a seat license? is that like a hunting license? does that mean you can take down anyone in those seats? i don't get it. (then again, i'm completely uninitiated.)

the beer at worlds was super expensive and was in a tent outside. i just went to the car and had plenty of beer in that thing. actually it was an RV since that is what we stayed in during the race...
a personal seat license is basically you get first dibs on that seat for an event that is held at the ADT Center. So about 2 months ago they sent me a nice letter that had all of the info and wanted to know if I wanted the seats again. Someone might be sitting in my seats, but I HIGHLY doubt it would be that hard to get some good seats there because they don't market these races all that well. I would say that there will be 1000 people tops on the biggest night for the world cup. |
I don't think there are any bad seats in the place, just decent ones and better ones.
It may not completely sell out, but I think even for saturday night of the first world cup there were over 2000 people. World Cup is a little more relaxed than worlds, and more of the athletes come up and hang out in the stands when they aren't competing, and they're mostly fairly friendly when they aren't cheering their teammates. I found a postcard that has the positions of the various levels of seat: VIP section (most expensive): The section at the finish line, and to the left about to the pursuit line and to the right for two sections into turn 1 (ends just after where the track starts to bend) Reserved: from where the VIP section ends in corner 1 up to about the pursuit line on the back straight, and from the end of the VIP section on the home straight pursuit line up to where turn 4 empties into the home straight. GA: everything else (from the back straight pursuit line up to the end of turn 4) |
Buy the cheap tickets, you'll be able to see fine. Like Biting duck, I dont' spend much time in the seat. I have been to Junior nats., Junior worlds, World Cup, Elite worlds, and Senior Nats. there. I have always bought the cheapest tickets and for the small amount of time I have spent in the seats, I have never been disappointed.

I just purchased tickets for the Sunday session. I might go to the Saturday morning one - it's a busy weekend!

Is this ChimbleySweep competing in the sprints fresh off her Alleycat victory???
|
It was pretty good tonight-- best was watching becky quinn move up to second place in the points race by taking the final sprint, taking advantage of the Canadian girls on the front. She worked hard for her place, and without the team support like the italian winner had (a lot of teams had two women in the race).
Word is that beers were $5. I never made it out of the infield-- we were copying and distributing communiqués as fast as the officials were generating them. I may get a chance to get out of the infield in the evening-- I'll be wearing a white shirt and khaki pants...but kiecker knows who I am. |

In a quote she even talks about her "teammates bringing her to the front." Just because they don't have the same jersey doesn't mean they are not teammates since in the world championships only countries will be represented and these world cups dictate how many people get in... |
I cannot make it tonight or tomorrow, so I will post my infield pass on eBay in a few minutes. Anybody interested can view the auction under Cranepool. You must pick it up from my home near Pasadena and I will request a valid driver's license and phone #. Good luck.
Excellent racing, BTW. Especially when you can go down on the track to photograph the racers as they whiz by. |
I want to see the races........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :..((
