I got a chance to run 2 times... in between races...
I was able to improve on my time from last week of 30.4 to 28.4 & 29.7 !
Two things were different, I changed to a 3T pista drop bar & I went from a 16t to a 15t cog.
I am still slow compared to the advanced riders, but I have a LONG way to go before I am close to their level.
I will be racing in the scratch races starting next week. Wish me luck !
That will be my first race experience.
ohh, and I busted my ass practicing a trackstand today... lol damn cleats !
(Track length is 333.3 meters).
and here are a few pictures of when I was getting coached by Mike. (Mike is an awesome racer and has lots of experience and he is extremely helpful.. THANKS MIKE ! ). And I feel sorry for the guy holding my bike.... I was right up on him when I was winding up ! LOL
There is one in there when I was completing the lap just before the end...

Congratualations on the improvement. Your track stand was looking good when I saw you. I think Tatto Mike is making a mud pie in his shorts in that first picture.

Were you able to run flying 200m TT's...that is actually the important number...that is how they seed the match sprints.

How do they time you on the flying 200 ?
Is there someone out at the 200 mark with a 2nd stopwatch ? how do they synchronize ?

You need a license if you want to race with the other people who are in teams and are pro's. You don't need a license if you want to race by yourself, or with other non-licensed people. If you want the license, you have to go to the usacycling.org website and buy a license for $ 60.

FF,
The flying 200 is usually timed by 1 person, either at the finish line, or the start of the 200. They start the watch as you come through, and then stop it when you finish..
Hand timing is always going to be "kinda" inexact, and you can get a pretty good idea when the front tire passes the line...unlike in track and field when you are trying to see a chest with swinging arms, etc.
At most sprint competitions, they are used to see the heats, so is a very common "metric" to measure yourself against others.
The problem with a 1-lap is that most tracks have differences which can affect your times(more/less banking, longer/shorter tracks, etc), and the abilitiles of the riders to actually push themselves full out the whole lap differ.

would more banking shorten or lengthen your time? I noticed that while my first flying 200 attempt was a 13.6 at kissena (which has very low banks and is a bit longer than piccolo) I couldn't break 14.0 at piccolo the weekend I tried there. Other factors were involved, injury, 1 month off the bike, wind and fatigue but I thought I would have at least been able to break 14... damn I was so pissed.

For a track that is the same length, the banking should make it faster(you can take advantage of it if you want, or else can stay at the "flat" sprinters lane.
Shorter tracks are often slower, since there is more banking/turning as opposed to straightaways.
