exposed bb

i jsut bought a track bike and the frame has an exposed bottom bracket. whats the advantages/ disadvantages of this?

You mean it has outboard bearings, like the newer Dura-ace/xtr shimano stuff? Or do you mean the bb shell itself is skeletonized/open?
