I have an oppertunity to purchace a beautiful NJS track frame for around 650 which I was all ready to buy before I realized the end spacing was 110, not the standard 120. Now this is going to be raced at the track to replace my bareknuckle, however it will also be used on the street. The only wheel sets I could find to fit this frame were the tubulars they have online, which will NOT work for my daily street riding. Should I still go through with this or is it more trouble than its worth. I was thinking about waiting untill I found a 120 spaced frameset, the season ends over here the first week of September anyway. Help me!

You have a couple of options. You can buy some 110 spaced hubs and build wheels (or have them built for you). Shimano still makes 110 spaced hubs I believe, and you can still find Suzue hubs.

Alternatively you can get a front hub/wheel that is drilled for disk brakes and attach a bolt-on cog to it.

Finally you can re-space the frame to 120mm.

All that said, I know a few people who ride tubulars on the street and swear by them. I have ridden tubulars on the street and can't stand them (I flatted 4 times in two months, riding those wheels once a week). YMMV.

You can get 110mm axle kits for most the major brands of hubs. Phil sells their own, the rest you can get through EAI. It would probably be cheaper to cold set the frame to 120mm.

As for tires, you should consider getting a set of wheels for riding on the street and keep the other set with the tubulars for the track.

you might have to grind the axle flat on two sides if respace the frame.
i think the 110mm spaced frames use a smaller diameter axle as well...not sure of the measurement though.

hi.. dont see why u cant use tubulars in the street. Well just be sure to do not over inflate them . second, glue them really good to the rim. 3rd, buy heavy road tubulars, 250/280 grams or similars to that, u wont get flats with them in at least 5 months, again do not over inflate them, 100 pounds max is more than enough eventhough u can put more ok?

Advice, learn to repair tubulars. once u learned u will never forget. if after 4 or 5 months u get 2 flats in row, change the tubular because is already too old and u'll be getting flats each 10 minutes

I have gotten tubulars on some of my bikes for years, I even have one that i changed because it was old, burned and very used but with zero flats.
