I am trying to find the best value on a new track bike for a beginner and I was wondering about Leader bikes. They seem to have some good prices and I called them and they said that they are planing to have complete track bikes out by the end of the month. The 725TR is the frame I have been looking at the most and I was wondering if anyone had ridden one?

If there is a velo swapmeet in your area you might be able to find something a bit better for about the same.

I haven't ridden one, but I have the same question as you...Looking for an entry level track frame (already have a fuji '06 Track but its 58cm and I need a 61cm). It seems like the primary complaint about LEADERs are the welds. But seriously, for a $318 frameset (which is about all I have to spend) is it a good buy, or should one go with a Tiwain Chromo frame (SE, KIloTT, etc) for about the same price?

I appreciate any feedback.

I own a Leader 735TT time trial bike. The bike is solid. I would not have a problem buying one of their track bikes. No problems at all with the bike. The one thing I do have experience with is their customer service. I had a problem with a headset - they were fantastic to deal with. As far as the bike quality mine is stiff, welds are 8/10, paint job is good too. My only complaint is that the bike is harsh compared to my road bike. But what can you expect going from carbon to aluminum. Overall I like their stuff. BTW last time I talked to them they told me they would have cyclocross frames in the next few months also.

I have and race on an older 735TR. I think it's the best value for your money. Yes, the welds aren't pretty but the bike is solidly built. The demensions of the bike would suggest a converted road bike (long TT and wheelbase and fairly low BB drop of 5.5cm). I picked up the frame for $150.

Overall it's a nice bike. I'll continue to race her on the velodrome until I crash and damage the frame or if my bike gets stolen. Even then I'd still consider getting another one.

The best value for a new track bike that is upgradable to match your progress through the years is the Fuji Track Comp. I've heard of them being as cheap as $650.

It's a great frame with OK components. Upgrade them as they break, when you develop preferences (stem, bars, saddle), or when you have extra cash for fun bike upgrades (wheels).

I take that back. My Leader 735TR has a 70mm bottom bracket drop instead of a 55mm drop.
