Well, I went past him after turn 2. I was hugging the top of the track. He was on top of the stayers line and it looked like he was playing with his cell phone while riding slowly on the back straight. I didn't look at him again until turn 4, when I heard the clatter of carbon. I looked back and down to see poor gary in some sort of contortion while doing a faceplant. We were at low speed, about 12 -15 mph at best. I would guess that the cell phone was the culprit. We all make mistakes. I think it was his turn that day. Mine was a week previous to that day. My shoulder and rotator cuff are still paying the price for my lack of prudent riding. In Gary's case, I never would have guessed that a fall at that speed with no one around would result in such serious injuries. I am amazed.

Actually when I crashed I was going at least 35. That was the last speed I caught on my computer in turn three. The fiddling you saw earlier was my ipod before I started doing some jumps. I usually warm up with music. Definitely didn't play a role. Can't really say for certain what caused it, other than I was just thinking ahead to the things I needed to do to get ready. Hit a bump. Pulled out of the pedal. Dunno. User error in any case.
