the velodrome at Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills, MI?

Anybody tried it out? It looks like a really good time, but the website doesn't have any info for 2010 yet.

Yeah, I've ridden at Bloomer Park before. It's a short, 44 deg banked track that's generally a lot of fun.

Do the Intro to the Velodrome class first. You'll get a lot of good info. Bring your own pedals/shoes if you've got them, but you can rent a Trek track bike when you're there.

The beginner class is on Saturday mornings @ 10am and Thursday nights @ 6pm. They give you the basics on how to ride the track and make sure you have enough control to let you loose on the track. I have ridden the velodrome at Bloomer on a few occasions and it is an absolute blast. That first time getting up on the track and then looking into the first corner is a little unsettling. I am supposed to ride that! It looks like a wall to me kind of feeling.

First time out is free as is the rental of a bike for that first time. If you have clip/straps leave them at home. They only allow road or mtn clipless on the track. The bikes are Trek T1s and have Shimano SPD pedals. Even if you don't have pedals/shoes they have a number of shoes as well as the bikes for first timers.

They now have the 2010 schedule up. Official opening day is May 1.

They only allow road or mountain pedals on a TRACK? What kind of rule is that?

At the track here in Carson you can look down the track from above. I think it's actually scarier that way, than from inside or on it. I usually tell new people to not look down the track at the turns until they've already been up on it. It's not bad once you're rolling on it.
