rim/hub recommendation for practice on the street

(cross posted this in singlespeed forums already)

When I go on the bank I use wheels they provide there.
What would be a good set of rims and hubs for practice on the road?
I need the front rim machined for brakes, since I also use the bike for commutes.
I am looking for:

box type rim
available machined for braking

He is looking for wheels that will work decently as track training wheels, so it fits here.

I dont know anything about the japanese market, but for thier price and durability nothing beats a formula hub, which gets rebranded by a bunch of companies including velocity, harris cycles, and iro. As for rims you pretty much know what you want low profile and machined. The first rim that comes to my mind is the Mavic Open Sport.
