Dear Carleton,
I was reading the Gear Inches thread that is now a sticky on the front. Which led me to my next quest- try and find similar information about frames. Other than Sheldon Browns website, and this http://bicycling.about.com/od/howtor...ike_sizing.htm i couldn't find any formulas to really help me decipher frame sizes. The Sheldon Brown site says Top Tube length is perhaps more important than, seat tube. Basically my question is this. I just bought a bike that is 56cm. I am 6'0. I've been riding it for about 6 months and i still can't get the seat exactly where I want it. Does this have to do with frame size? It's not "uncomfortable" but I was wondering if you have any general comments on frame sizes / fitting. i think i remember you talking about this earlier in the thread so if you've already done this, well, feel free to berate or mock at will. i get yelled at for a living. |

Should I buy some Tour of California bibs if I can get them at 60% off? These would be my first pair of bibs. Also, what do you suggest as a budget clipless set up (pedals and shoes)? I have to thank you, some time ago and I can't remember the thread but you had suggested that one of the best upgrades that you can make is in the tires. People go crazy for new hubs and rims and cranks etc. But they ride crappy, high rolling resistance tires. And seeing so many people spend a ridiculous amount of money on their bikes but to have these crappy tires just drives me nuts. So, I have been riding only on Conti GP4000 with the chili compound(700 x 23) and I have been loving them all day and all night. My question is do you know of any other tires in larger sizes like 700x28~32 where they protect and roll relatively as well as the GP4000's do? One more. I can't decide what irritates me more, expensive builds with crappy tires or expensive builds with crappy pedals and straps. What about you? |

I'd choose: Crappy tires on expensive builds. It's like putting cheap tires on a Porsche 911...it's gonna handle like crap. |
camashtorcal - Gatorskins or Gator Hardshells are most likely going to be some of the best rolling tires in bigger sizes, especially if you go 5-10 over the recommended psi.

Campy is noticeably absent on the race scene. They are just not as stiff as Dura Ace. I've ridden them all. I even prefer DA to my $3K SRM cranks in terms of feel. But the SRM give me data that I can't get with DA. |

Do any track racers stick with the same "Steel is real" thing? Like sticking with steel track frames, steel wheels? More importantly, does it do them any good?
