My fg has a fix/fix rear hub with a 15t and an 18t.

My chainring is a 42t.

>or= 75% or my rides on it are in the 18t. Spin ftw.

Carleton,

I asked Scrod, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get your input too. I need a second set of wheels for my bike and there is a guy that is selling a set of Cane Creek Volos locally for a good price. Is it absurd to think that I could get away with riding on Tubulars a few times a week and not hate life because of flats? Roads around here are fairly clean, I've only gotten one puncture in 6 months of riding.

Call your local bike shop and find out how much a tubular tire costs then ask how much the labor is to mount it. Then ask how long it takes to get your wheel back and when it would be rideable. Seriously. Call right now and tell us what they say.

If your shops are closed, call any shop in California.

Seriously. I'm not being an ass.

Kayce 02-10-12 05:39 PM

Eric, youre only three and a half hours from a nice 333m track for those wheels.

UCF Eric 02-10-12 05:51 PM

30 bucks to mount, rideable immediately, apparently they don't use glue they use tape. I see what you're getting at thought.

If I could pick them up for 150 dollars or so do you think it would be worth it to pick them up and resell them?

No. Not really. You can get a new clincher set for around that much.

If you plan to use them on the track exclusively, then go for it.

I ride brakeless as well. My other fixed gear which I gave my girlfriend to ride has a brake on it. Sometimes I ride I and I dont understand why people only use it for emergencies only. The brake is there and its convenient to just use, so I always use it no matter how confident I am with my own stopping power

http://www.origin-8.com/?page_id=91&...ter&cl1=CHAINS

I believe Surly has chain tugs that fit wider track ends

Dear Carleton:

Is there something that can be done about the stench coming from the Car-Free forum? They think the incense is covering the smell of the reefer, but it isn't. And the body odor is getting kind of thick too.

I wouldn't bother you about it, but I'm afraid the guys on the 50+ forum are about to go all Gran Torino on them.

TIA!

Haha! I actually live car-free, so I've ventured into car-free forum once or twice. Besides that though, I've noticed that every subforum on BF is pretty much its own forum, with very little member crossover.

Dude, I'm not going over there. I spent enough time in Berkley to know what's over there. Not for me.

This is true. Seeing someone from here in another forum is like seeing someone from work/school in the grocery store. Sort of awkward and you're not sure if you should say hi or not.

Holy crap, that's a perfect description.

JesusBananas 02-11-12 08:53 PM

Dear carleton,

When did you get a Sheldon eagle? I hadn't noticed it until just now.

Also, congrats!

evilcryalotmore 02-12-12 08:44 PM

Dear carleton Im having troubles with my new frame, The seatpost doesnt have enough tilt to be Level, and i cant ride with the saddle point up my bottom >..< Right now im using a FSA carbon seatpost
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

And the Tilt adjustment Is not enough for Level on the frame, I'll take pictures to show you how ridiculous this is..

Im asking, What seatpost has infinite Adjustments? I was thinking thomson, Or that raceface seatpost, Imma try switching to a Kalloy seatpost to see if they can adjust lower

Also, The seatpost Is too long): It hits the bend in my seattube, If i cut the post by 20mm will it affect it much? If i have the min length in frame i should be safe right?

Also, congrats!

Ask in Bike mechanics.

I suspect user error.

Maybe ask the manufacturers for a suggestion. I'm sure that you aren't the first customer to have this dilemma.

Again, ask in mechanics. I'm not a personal shopper.

Syscrush 02-13-12 02:13 AM

Dear Carleton,

I want to become a personal shopper - any pointers?

nuhtowel 02-13-12 07:37 AM

Start an "Ask Syscrush" thread.

Jaytron 02-13-12 04:05 PM

Carleton,

I used a calculator and it says I should be using a 170mm crank, when I'm currently using a 165mm. How big of a difference does that 5mm make, and what type of differences are we speaking of?
