FTP question

What's a good FTP range for a track sprinter? In Watts/Kg?

I'm seeing that I have good 5 second power but am not nearly as happy with my FTP from my 20 minute test. I'm not going to post my numbers, I want to just get an idea what's ideal for one who is trying to specialize in sprints on the track.

In my experience, FTP (Functional Threshold Power) doesn't factor much into sprint training. FTP is used in pacing strategies. Sprinting (F200M, Standing 500M, Standing 1K, Keirin, and Match Sprints) are all maximal events. Generally speaking, there is no pacing involved...at least not to the extent that pacing is involved in endurance events (2K, 3K, 4K, Points Race, Scratch Race, Madison).

So, don't sweat it.

But, if you want numbers...get them from the guys who wrote the book: http://www.peaksware.com/articles/cy...profiling.aspx

Also, note that no sprint events last longer than 1:15 with the Kilo being the longest. The Keirin from beginning to end lasts a few minutes, but actual sprinting is maybe 45" - 55" or so.

So, 20-minute power may be a good rule for cycling in general and especially road time-trial riders. But, it's stands to reason that 5", 15", 30", and 60" power would be more useful metrics to a pure sprinter.

The man with all the resources - thanks, Carleton... I feel better now ;)
