How to stop your new track bike at your new velodrome - not

As we all remember, it can be hard to learn how to ride a fixed gear bike at a velodrome. It is even harder to learn if the velodrome is under construction. But when that last panel is laid on the track it does have to be ridden, doesn’t it? Of course sometimes the riding part is easier than the stopping part.

You know how when you were a kid and went out for Pizza. PIZZA!!! and the waitress brought it to the table and your mom told you to wait till it cooled off and was ready to eat because you'd burn the roof of your mouth? But you couldn't wait and you burned the roof of your mouth.

This is that moment, except on a velodrome:

Tried a fixie for the first time in 20 years at the Northbrook velodrome yesterday- had forgotten how fun they are. So I'm going wheee for a couple of laps and then remembered to apply back pressure to slow down and wound up doing another lap before I could stop (yep, knees are still bad- now I remember)

Carleton, I think you summed up the feeling perfectly.

I have no doubt that a lot of time and energy went into making this velodrome happen, and the excitement of laying down that last panel had to be pretty high.

It is great seeing two new velodromes in the Midwest (Chicago and Cleveland)
