Building a Dolan Pre-Cursa to race- input on components?

Hello all,

A little bit of back story is available in my first thread, where I delusionally thought I'd ride this bike for long rides as well as on the track. Since then I've done a 80 miler and 110 miler on my Pacer, and decided that climbing the rolling hills of upstate NY on a fixed gear sounds like no fun at all. Then I contemplated getting the bike as a complete from Dolan-bikes.com, but after scoring a like-new pair of Wabi GX410's for $100, I've decided to buy the frameset from DPM and build from there.

This will primarily be a bike used for racing. However, I will most likely ride it to and from the velodrome whenever I race, which is 10 miles each way. Because of that, this is what I'm currently thinking:

Frame: Pre Cursa with road fork (so I can have a brake for the ride to and from the track) Is this a terrible decision?
Wheels: Wabi GX410
Crankset: Omnium? Andel Deluxe? Miche Primato? I know I want a 144BCD set with a 48-50T ring, since I'm looking for 85" to 88". Really not sure what the best route to go is, and appreciate any input you guys can share.
Cogs: Going to try and get my chain the right length to have a city riding/warm up gear at around 75-78" and a racing cog. Something like 48:17 and 48:15. There's another thread in the Fixed Gear section where Soma's and EAI's have been highly lauded, so I may grab those.

Stem/Bars/Saddle: Seems like these don't matter as much as the drivetrain... I'll probably buy whatever I can find for relatively cheap.

Am I forgetting anything? DPM aren't shipping any orders until August 28th, so I'll probably start buying the small stuff while I wait for the frame to become available again. Not sure I want to risk ordering the frame from Dolan direct and take a gamble on customs charging 11%. Thanks all!

Okay, let me try to help a fellow Kissena rider (lucky guess right?).

First things first, there are plenty of other frames than the Dolan with Road fork that are drilled for Brakes. My Felt TK3 is actually drilled F/B and I think the Trek T1 is also drilled. I have seen plenty of nice bikes at the track which are drilled. So if you are not SOLD on the Dolan, be patiant especially since at that price points there ARE options and our season will be ending soon. No sense rushing to have the bike sit in your house but also bikes will become available as Fall/Winter comes.

I do not have the experience as many here in the forum, but the angle of the fork will play into feel, reaction and control on the track. My bike is track specific but I did get it with the idea of "maybe" doing as yourself riding on the road to the track etc.

As far as parts? Plenty of great Chainrings on Ebay new or used which I have purchased , same for cogs.
I would buy the BEST crank & BB you can afford. I swapped out my stock crank for a DA crank & BB, bought used and do feel the difference.
I slowly picked up the parts over the winter and then sold off what I did not expect to use as I discover what I really needed.

Post up some WTB on Kissena forum and ask around the track as not everyone is on face book. Send me a message on FB and I'll forward another FB local link for buying & selling that may help.

Good Luck
Robert
