US National Championship history

Does any one know where to find the historical records of the national championships? We are thinking of running some races that were held at the National Championship on Penrose, but I cannot find it anywhere. The olympic races of the era are kind of boring, I was hoping the Nationals had more races.

You have to dig through USA Cycling's results to find some events from years past and sort of figure out what the race program was from there. Searching by keyword may be tricky as the names of the events are different. Maybe search by rider name and then go through his/her history.

Also, I think cyclingnews.com has results in their archive. Google would help get you those. I've googled some old names and have retrieved old stuff from over 10 years ago. Use the search string: "site:cyclingnews.com [keywords and/or names]"

You may want to call/email USA Cycling and see what they may have.

Back in the day they used to list them all in an appendix in the rulebook that they sent to every member. But that's long gone-- it's a lot harder to find that all in one place now.

Looking in "No Brakes!", it looks like StL held nats in 1962. Unfortunately, prior to 1965, it was run just as an omnium, rather than individual event titles. Looking at 1965, it looks like the events that were contested were match sprints, pursuits, and a 10 mile race, which is probably similar to what was run in '62.

Hope that helps at all. Also, here's the link to the old USAC national titles:
