Front wheel choices
 

What are the best somewhat budget minded (~$500) choices for an aero front wheel (sprinter, if that matters)

I've seen some trispokes for decent prices, 808's (used) are a little out of my budget. Anything else you guys recommend? I was thinking of the 82mm Planet X wheels, but my local track is an outdoor one, so maybe something that deep isn't what I should be looking for anyways.

I bought a fairly generic 80mm deep carbon tubular -about $200USD. Low flange road and I ride a Zipp hex skewer on the track.
Outdoors - fine until 30-35km/h wind. 50mm usable in all conditions. I'm 80kg - mostly enduro but ride 500TT and Kierin too.
You probably can get away with using a wheel for both road and track unless you are significantly bigger. A road wheel will probably be significantly cheaper too. Depending on the brand you can swap the axle out - put in a track one.

You can probably borrow one, or preferably two, 50 mm and 80mm. Easier if they have quick releases too. Try them in you usual conditions and see what you think.
I noticed it most heading out of turn two with a cross/head.

I didn't notice any "flex" on 250m indoor either.
I've borrowed tri-spokes - they don't seem to be as affected by wind as the 80mm, but didn't seem any quicker in the still conditions.
I also borrowed a front disk indoors. Really fun and great once up to speed.
I race with a disk on the back - doesn't seem affected by wind.

Road wheels can be used on the track. But, since it's the winter, I'd suggest saving up and spending time finding a track wheel. You won't need it till next April, right?

My favorites that you can find around your budget:

- Zipp 404 track
- Zipp 808 track

I'm sure that there are lots of other generic brands, too.

If you hunt around, you might get lucky. Lots of high quality gear changes hands in the winter.

Corima 4 HM spoke and FFWD wheels are a great choice too

FFWD 4/5 spokes don't show up used very often.

404/808 might be my choice here.

Any opinions on the chinacarb trispokes? I missed a deal on a HED trispoke I was watching :( It sold for $361

I'd pass on the tri spoke. Normal to heavy riders find that it gets mushy in turns.

Good to know. Pass on any tri, or just the chinacarb?
