My son will do his first race in about 2 weeks(12 and under). He has a good base from riding the last 3 yrs. Is there any tips for kids training anyone could give?

Uhmm, he's under 12...helping him HAVE FUN is by far the best training you can give. The rest will come with time. If he has fun and rides regulary that's about enough.

Oh yeah, he rides about 4 times a week most rides are in the 10 to 12 mile range and some as long as 18 to 22 miles. Most of his riding is done in Dupont and Pisgah ao his bike handling skills are very good.He loves to ride so fun is no problem.

Riding behind him and cracking a whip will do wonders for his speed. :D

I think a subtle, no pressure way might be to go with him, maybe string the ride out a few more miles each time without any pretext of going longer, that way he's getting better, still having fun, with absolutely no increase in pressure.
