Why are you declining to refute the American Dietetic Association?

What are these huge doses of supplements necessary for a vegan? I take B12 just like millions of meat eaters. I have never taken any other supplements in the 44 years I have lived meat-free and my health is excellent. I do not believe that I am immune from developing a disease, but so far I have enjoyed excellent, robust, medication-free health.

Animals do not produce B12 - they get it from bacteria. The human gut produces copious amounts of B12 in the colon but B12 is absorbed further up in the ileum. Animals consume B12 by grazing grass mixed with their own poo, or by eating the contents of the stomachs or the flesh of grazing animals.

If you do not know the basics then you should do some research.

Why does every vegan thread get hijacked?! Moving on (because in all honesty I give no sh**ts what some internet troll thinks of my diet), do any of you vegans use Brooks saddles? Seems contradictory...what do saddles do you prefer?

No Brooks saddles here, but they do look nice. I just go with what the bicycle comes with until I need replacement. I have a Specialized Riva now and looking for a replacement. Not sure with which saddle co. I may order from.

Carnorexia! I saw the email notices and expected to have been attacked by the usual suspects - what a pleasant surprise.

I think that Mic the Vegan is destined to become very well known.

Omega-3?s and the Eskimo Fish Tale | NutritionFacts.org

Anyone reading the latest studies hinting that animal products may in fact be the single biggest contributor to Alzheimer's?

the old Eskimo argument doesn't actually work well on people who have looked into it

If you actually clicked on it it outlines why it doesn't work.. This was not in favor of said argument....

90% of the worldwide B12 supplements produced are given to cows and other farmed animals. So, eating meat for B12 is actually less efficient than simply taking a supplement directly. You learn something new everyday - I try to.

Do carnivores need Vitamin B12 supplements? - Baltimore Post-ExaminerBaltimore Post-Examiner

"...But, cattle no longer feed on grass and chickens do not peck in the dirt on factory farms. Even if they did, pesticides often kill B12 producing bacteria and insects in soil. Heavy antibiotic use kills B12 producing bacteria in the guts of farm animals. In order to maintain meat a source of B12 the meat industry now adds it to animal feed, 90% of B12 supplements produced in the world are fed to livestock. Even if you only eat grass-fed organic meat you may not be able to absorb the B12 attached to animal protein. It may be more efficient to just skip the animals and get B12 directly from supplements..."

Wow neither had I. Will look for more into it as well. The industry that is animal agriculture is the most pernicious of our time. I especially enjoyed the part where it outlined surgeries. It amazes me that people would rather go under the knife than simply change a few aspects of their diet. Truly boggles the mind. But what do I know, I am sure someone will come by soon and state, "confirmation bias, man!"
