Yoga for cyclists

I do some yoga style stretches now a few times a week.

Just would be would a good ratio to follow? Use these style stretches for recovery and so no muscles tighten up too much

how many times week is more effective? and how long should each session be? i use videos from FitnessBlenders

assistance please

I do a few yoga exercises also and do them every morning for 15 minutes or so. My main reason, as a man of 77 y.o. is to maintain mobility and flexibility. Serious yoga practitioners may not look like it but they can be very strong. What are you trying to accomplish. I do quite a bit of core exercises also to help out a bad back and it works.

I did Bikram Yoga classes for month last summer, 3-5 times a week and supplemented with my custom yoga routine. I found no real transference to biking performance and not much improvement in mobility. I did not loosen me up for trail running either. However, I switched to T25, more of HITT workout, and everything improved. So, I needed something more dynamic; slow static stretching and more isometric exercises was a very poor recipe for me. Yoga-wise, what's good for some is bad for others.

Dynamic stretching (vs yoga) before and after exercise is something you ought to try.

have been doing yoga for several decades...while some is better than none, I find that it is most effective when done daily or at least 4-5 times per week.

flexibility is noticeably improved with more frequent workouts. I typically like to devote at least 30 min per session, but even 10-15 min per day yields benefits.

as a cyclist, if I can only do one pose, it is the 'pigeon'...holding the pose for 1 min on each side helps release tension in the pelvic area.

I have just found interest in Yoga and only did one 2 hour class so far. It certainly was tougher than I thought it would be but I made it and did all the exercises.
Even though I only did one class so far, I think anyone could benefit from doing Yoga exercises and stretching...whether they ride a bike or a couch.
I intend to continue this experience long enough to speak with more experience about it. Stretching, breathing and working on all muscles should make anyone better at whatever they do and lessen the likelihood of an injury too.
