Stomach infection is no joke. I stand corrected, she has been out sense xmas and she has lost 45 lbs. Her surgery was on 12/27 and she lost 45lbs in 5 weeks. |

I don't want to sound like a jerk for saying that, but it is true. My own step-dad (who I grew up with) died from alchoholism just a couple of years ago, so its something that I am very worried for people about. I'm willing to bet that I was consuming more than 4000 calories a day for the majority of the last 5 years. Right now I'm averaging around 2200 a day and I'm realizing that this is all I need. The alcohol statement was just me being happy that I'm watching what I eat. |
That is good to know :) My general alarms go off a little to easy I guess :o

Seriously, thanks for caring. More people need to reach out to those around them.

She lost 20 lbs in 21 days. Gym cardio exercises 3 hours per day and extremely restrictive diet (they didn't say, but it looked like Atkins???). Obviously, some of this was fluid, but WOW! Any comments? No, not Atkins. I've been on this guy's routine for a while now, and have lost about 25 lbs. He preaches lower end HR zone for extended periods of time for maximum fat burning, low fat, low sodium, and eating small meals at 2 -3 hour intervals throughout the day. For my "body type" that equates to: Breakfast: 4 ounces of lean protien (egg whites, ground turkey, etc.) Mid morning snack: 4 ounces of lean protien, vegetables Lunch: 4 ounces of lean protien, 4 ounces of "good" carbs, vegetables Mid afternoon snack: Same as lunch Dinner: Same as lunch Snacks might include Bananas and fresh pineapple for after working out. "good" carbs would include stuff like baked potatoes, yams, (non white) rice, etc. Vegetables are considered "free food", so you can eat all the broccoli and asparagus that you want.... :) Like I said, the emphasis is on extended lower cardio workouts, some weight training, and frequent balanced (low fat low sodium) meals. This means that all my food is fresh, and the vegetable steamer gets a real workout. I work out at least 1 hour a day, at least 5 days a week. Biking, spinning, trainer, treadmill, whatever gets the heart rate into the lower end of my target zone for an extended period of time. Of course, I suplement that with higher end cardio on my own, to get those bebefits, as well. The food prep is time consuming, but the regimen is not a gimmick, and it works well for me and my wife. Well I just got back from the gym. I spent 30 minutes on the stationary bike and did some weight lifting just to keep my arms moving regularly. I was 304 on 1/18/05 and now I'm 296.1. I'm finally seeing some improvement and I think I can keep this up!

New to the board and this is my first post. I've read about half of this thread. Does IowaParamedic still post? He was a maniac getting that weight off (I mean that in a good way!!
So, here's my story. I would appreciate any criticism or tips. I'm a mid 20's male, weigh around 230 (I will not weigh myself because it drives me crazy to do that during a diet) and I'm aiming to getting down around 185. My max HR is about 200. I started dieting with the new year and I do it by counting calories. I estimate conservatively that I burn 2000 calories a day doing nothing. My goal is to have a deficit of 1250 calories a day, which would have me lose ~2.5lbs a week. Usually I will do over an hour of excersize a day at a HR of 150 or so, until my Polar HR monitor says I've burned 1000 calories. Also, usually, I'll eat 550 calories by lunchtime via 2 small meals, and then after my evening workout that will leave me with 1200 calories to eat, which I usually do in one big meal a few hours before bedtime. Now, I can't workout seven days a week or I'll wearout, so I take a day off from excersizing and makeup the calories throughout the week. I keep track of all the numbers to ensure I'm hitting my marks of 8750 calories down the drain by week's end. I'm rarely hungry and the excersizing isn't too bad. I eat decent foods, lots of carbs and I force myself protein through lean meats and beans and eggs. I guess the bad things are that I eat so much in one big meal and that I get a lot of calories from soft drinks (I just can't stop...) |

It wasn't surgery that made me fat, and I won't have surgey to make me thin. I'm getting thin the same way I got fat... One day at a time, One good choice at a time. WWW.TOURDEPANTS.COM

Not seeing the results I would like to. I'll be glad when the weather warms so I can get some more miles in to help the process. If I could just force myself to put in more time on the trainer I think I'd see bigger losses. Guess that is something I'll have to work on. |

Sorry to say I have not been more active in the thread. Well, this entire forum for that matter. I've been a bit disillusioned with BFN of late. The mean spirited posts have gotten out of hand, in my opinion. (not this thread) So, I look around a bit, but usually just move on in disgust. |
204 this am, pants loosening, feeling good!

Y'all noticed the change too? I thought I was just becoming a prude. I don't have much use for some of the "Other" content. WWW.TOURDEPANTS.COM

Glad to see everyone making nice progress towards their goals! I, on the other hand, gained a pound for the week. :( Oh well. This is the first year I have actually lost weight in January. I'll have to step it up a notch for February. I can really loose weight one the temperatures warm up enough to get out for daily longer rides. 20-30 miles once or twice a week don't do much for my weight loss. I really need consistant daily riding to burn the fat off. BikeForums is not the same since the Ulock exposure. I have made some great friends here who continue to be of value. I just hope the crums fade away in time. So, anyone have tips on getting over the mental hump of trainer time? When I first got it, I was so excited to be able to ride inside with the weather didn't permit outdoor riding. I still like using it, but I can't seem to put in the same amount of time on it as I can on an outdoor ride. I have several training DVDs which I use and have helped my form and technique. Just interested in what y'all may be doing to extend those trainer sessions. Bob (Zin) |

I have only used the training DVDs since I've had my trainer (about 1 month) and I've enjoyed the 45minute - 1 hour workouts so far. Many other people watch movies, and when the scenes change they sprint, or put it in a BIG gear, etc. Maybe you can try that for a good 2-3 hour session. Ron |
Hey Zin, Someone over at Bike Journal had a post about a controler you could hook up to your trainer for playing video games. It sounded pretty cool! :D

Well I'm now at 289. I haven't noticed many visual differences yet, but I still have 90 lbs to go.
