Welcome Jessica! WWW.TOURDEPANTS.COM

juf2m 05-20-05 12:38 PM

Hi guys! Thanks for the welcomes. You are right, I should try to look at this in a more positive light, especially since it will be a loooooooooooong summer. It has now been renamed the "summer of realizing my potential". I like the "summer of awesomeness" thing too! :D

juf2m 05-21-05 08:31 PM

Well, the summer of awesomeness is off to a good start. Today I rode 73K in 3:15. It is still relatively early in the season, so at the very least I hope that the 100K goal will definitely happen! :)

Team853 05-27-05 03:15 PM

Man, it's awfully quiet in here these days. How's everyone doing? Haven't heard from many of the regular posters in awhile. Ritz? LowCel? Zin? BigLug? Zach?

Anyway, here's my latest update. Not a lot to report, unfortunately. Definitely struggling to hit my goal now.

January 18, 2005 --> 213 lbs.
February 21, 2005 --> 203 lbs.
March 30, 2005 --> 190 lbs.
May 2, 2005 --> 184 lbs.
May 27, 2005 --> 180 lbs.

Target --> 170 lbs. by September 2, 2005.

Ritz 05-28-05 05:48 AM

As the echo from his words fades, Team863 is passed by a lone tumbleweed... and the wind blows. Nope, we're all still here, I just haven't been posting recently. Thanks for the nudge! I'm still bigger than I want to be, and am still working on getting smaller. :D WWW.TOURDEPANTS.COM

zachisageek 05-29-05 04:33 PM

I haven't weighed myself in a few months, but I'm thinking that I'm still losing weight. I will post again when I have some numbers to verify this.

Dude Lug, you're gonna pass me at your rate!

I am very very depressed. It has been 2 weeks since I started my regimen of drinking lots of water, eating betw. 1600-2000 cals per day and riding at least 5 days a week. I do about 20 miles per ride, but on the weekends I do longer. This past weekend I did a 53 mile ride! My longest ever! Physically I am getting stronger, it is noticeable in that the rides are becoming less of an effort.

Weight wise however...are you ready for this?

I have lost: 0.5lb!!!!!!! In 2 weeks!!!!!!!

I guess I am going to have to eat even less. This really sucks. :( I don't there has been a fat for muscle exchange yet because my measurements are the same.

how long have you been keeping up this lifestyle? I would keep doing it and not decrease your food intake at all. If you keep this up, I guarantee you will lose weight and lose fat. You have to be building muscle and burning fat with that kind of routine.

A HALF A POUND!!!!!!! In 2 weeks!!!!!!!

Be careful not to undereat. It sounds like you are dangerously close already. Everyone's metabolism is different, but real weight loss takes time. It sounds like you are taking the right approach, but make sure you don't overdo it. It's better to settle on a compromise that you can sustain than go all out and burn out when you don't get any results in a couple of weeks. A person's water weight can vary by a couple of pounds just during the course of a day, so extrapolating the half pound per 2 weeks would probably not be accurate at all.

Hang in there and stick with it.

juf2m 06-01-05 01:47 PM

Thanks guys...I will stick with it, but if I don't see some results by the end of June I don't know what I'll do.

I started this new regime on May 16 btw. Prior to that I pretty much ate what I wanted and slowly over the course of the past 2 years I've gained this 15+lbs that I need to get rid of.

I should have mentioned that on the very long rides I definitely exceed the 2000 mark (by quite a bit!), eating granola, gu etc.

I know that this theoretically should work, so I will hang in there....

Ritz 06-02-05 06:59 AM

It took me litterally years to get my body into the sad state it's in today... I know it will take time to fix it. Hang in there, we're all in this together! :D WWW.TOURDEPANTS.COM

Ooooh today was a BAD day. It was raining and cold so I didn't ride, but did I get on the trainer? Noooo. I decided to make it treat day, so we went to a movie (Cinderella Man, very good!) and out for dinner. I am a big eater, but the portions in this country...I need to be able to deal with them. Sometimes I think they hide secret ingredients in the food to make you fat so that you will have to partake of the dietary industry!

Anyway, today I didn't need secret ingredients, it was all my own gluttony! I ordered what I thought would be a dish of pasta with sundried tomatoes, zucchini, some parmesan sprinkled on and grilled chicken.

HA! What I got was an ENORMOUS trough of at least 5 cups of pasta, a half a loaf of garlic bread, a cup of shredded cheese..................and this was after I had eaten my pre-salad and a sour dough roll (if I had known about the dinner I wouldn't have had the roll!). It was massive. All the way through I thought "I must stop here and take half of it away..." but of course I didn't. Like a cow with a field I kept on munching until it was too late. I ate every last drop.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURP!!!!

Between that and what I had eaten earlier in the day, I had well over 3,000 calories.

I deserve to be fat. :(

eating like that is all in our heads. We aren't hungry but our brains have been programmed to think, "There's still food in front of me. I need to eat it to survive." Just sit back when you get a big meal like that when you are half done and say, "I'm full. I have no hunger left inside me so I don't need to finish this." Also, when you wait for a little while you will start to feel full as it takes a while for the food to get where it's going and thus, make you feel full.

juf2m 06-03-05 07:33 PM

Oh I know...you are quite right. But I just don't have the willpower. A friend in the medical research field told me not to worry too much because the body can't really process all those calories so some of them go right through you. I hope so!!

well, at least in my case, when I eat that much food, it does go right through me if ya know what I mean. ;)

juf2m 06-03-05 07:43 PM

LOL! I sure do. The same happens to my boyfriend. :D

hi565 06-03-05 08:11 PM

14 pounds down, at 169 now. Started at 183. My goal is 160, will be there by kili trip...

Ritz 06-04-05 08:31 AM

I'm Still Too Fat! :( WWW.TOURDEPANTS.COM

sbeatonNJ 06-04-05 06:45 PM

I am down like a good twenty to twenty five pounds as of this week. I haven't even really been trying as hard as I could as far as portions go. I have been keeping the food clean and healthy but my portions should be better regulated. I've got like 2,200 miles loged as of tonight, my average speed is 18ish, up from 15ish to 16 last year on my usual routes, and I figure once my summer class ends I'll be on the bike even more. Been commuting 32 miles round trip on my fixed gear to my weekend job, I am just really loving cycling this year; as opposed to last year when I was hurt and gained weight and couldnt keep up with my friends. I just can't wait to see what I weigh at the end of the summer.

cheebahmunkey 06-04-05 08:37 PM

does it sound weird to say that today I splurged and maybe had about 2000 calories? Feels like I didn't stop eating all day. Oh well. Got work tomorrow. Making pizzas and roasted chickens in a brick oven really does give one a good workout. Making the dough for the pizza must burn about 500 calories by itself. LOL, I never though making pizzas would make my muscles sore the next day. Oh well, here's to another day.

juf2m 06-04-05 08:49 PM

I would hardly call 2000 calories a splurge! That's a pretty normal amount for most people. I don't know how you stand the temptation of roasted chickens and pizza all day, I'd go crazy! :eek:

To try to make up for yesterday I rode 26 miles today and consumed 1,550ish calories. Tomorrow I'm doing a 45 miler and will try to eat as little as I can, but I will definintely be fueling my way through the workout.

The worst part about today was that I had to wait in line at the local soft ice cream place so that my boyfriend could chow down on soft ice cream which I LOOOVE but I couldn't have any. :( Nothing in the world sucks more than dieting but I will lose this weight if it KILLS me!!!

Congratulations to those of you who are doing so well I am very jealous. ;)

Ritz 06-05-05 07:04 AM

Man! Y'all are my Heros! I'm still too fat. Soon! I have to get control of my intake. Riding more wouldn't hurt either. :O WWW.TOURDEPANTS.COM
