Hey All:

Here's the weekly update. Slow and steady.

February 27, 2006 - 274lbs
March 6, 2006 - 268lbs (wk tot: 57.3; year tot 57.3)
March 13, 2006 - 266lbs (wk tot: 77.95; year tot: 135.25)
March 20, 2006 - 260lbs (wk tot:109.2; year tot: 244.75)
March 27, 2006 - 255lbs (wk tot:118.7; year tot: 363.15)
*April 3, 2006 - 251lbs (wk tot: 108; year tot: 471.15)

My workouts have become boring so I have started doing different interval training schedules. Just a little bit of change can go a long way.

Still reading Riding with the Blue Moth. Restarting Heft on Wheels again for inspiration.

Peace.
Eric

Ok I'm still at 206 after spiking to 210 last weekend. The gym and diet are doing the job but it gets ruined by lack of control on weekends.

Weight loss

Since my heart attack 3 years ago I've lost 73 lbs...down from 250 to 177 lbs as of this morning. Gave up all sugar and other high glycemic foods. Also took up marathons and long distance cycling. I'm 52 years old and feel better than I have in 20 years...waist size went from 40 to 32...no more yoyo dieting...just slow and steady weight loss from a lifestyle change. It took a health crisis to create a paradigm shift! Frank:D

Rewarded myself today for losing 45 pounds commuting by putting some cash down on a Giant OCR2. Test ride made me drool after riding my MTB since October. Burning fat and stress and reaping the rewards. Ride on.

Doc told me to lose 30lbs and the numbers would probably work themselves out. Been running 10-15 miles per week, eating lots of fiber and veggies, but mainly cut the s@#t out of my diet. Just recently bought a bike and am training for and olympic distance triathlon or two this year. Ultimate goal is to get down to 145 lbs and qualify for the Boston Marathon this fall.

And am loving this cycling thing!!!

Another pound gone this week. I go for my monthly %BF check next week (calipers by a trainer) and I'm hoping it's less than 18%. I'm pretty sure I'll make my goal of 175 by May 1st. I'll have to set a date for my next goal of 170 (I can usually maintain 170 during the summer when my mileage goes up).

So me - 6' 4" - 270# - I didn't mind the weight when I was doing power-lifting on a regular basis but I'm not now .. not doing anything. I have been slacking the past couple years and I need to get back on track. What are you doing for your excercise/weight loss program? I think I will have my sister measure my "fat" percentage ... that should get me going again.

Ricardo 04-16-06 10:41 AM

Hello guys,
I started cycling for fitness last september. I was 170 pounds and lost around 20 pounds just before I got married. My wife and I moved to a smaller town and I didnt have any ride buddies so weight came back. Now I am back on track; this time with a heart rate monitor. My actual weight is 170 again and will post any progress here.

Cheers,

Ricardo

I too used to powerlift and bodybuild. I was on track scholarship in college... all the weight events. I too just slacked off... for years. I'm turning 40 in August and want to be in the best shape as I can.

Right now I am just riding and doing core exerceses... mostly crunches. I ride anywhere from 1.5 - 2 hours a day. I use a heart rate monitor. I eat about 4-5 times a day... no specific diet except not to eat anything in excess... and no fast food, soda, chips, etc. I really watch my portion control. When I was lifting I would eat a lot... now I realize my body doesn't need the quantity anymore... just quality.

Where in MA are you. I'm starting to ride with the Charles River Wheelmen. Group rides are fun and they push you as well as provide fellowship.

Peace.
Eric

Have been trying to ride with friends and groups to push myself and go further. On Sunday, I found out why I carry two spare tubes.... because I got two flats in one ride.

Reading Concrete Cowboy for inspiration.

I had a series of 3 flats (2 in one ride). After examining the tubes, I noticed that the holes were basically in the same spots. It ended up being due to poor rim tape.

Still going in the right direction despite a holiday weekend binge!! The key for me lately has been to follow poor diet choices with running or biking the next day. Keep up the great work you all!!

Wow, you all are doing great! I hope you're all feeling better as the pounds/kilos come off and the bike miles/kilometers go up.

No change for me this week. I just knew that these last few pounds were going to be the toughest to lose. It seems my 40+ year old body really wants to hang on to some fat more than it did in the past. I guess that's normal. Of course, I'm a chocoholic and the temptation of Easter candy hasn't helped, but I think I've got that under control now that it's all hidden away. I'll have to get used to much smaller drops in weight from now on and if I can lose 1/2 lb per week, that'll be considered "good progress". Cycling continues to improve, especially on the hills. Swimming improves at a much slower rate, but I enjoy it and it's a great way to do something aerobic off the bike.

4/05/06 - 233 lbs.
4/23/06 - 230 lbs.

I gained it slowly, i'm losing it slowly. Did 20 miles of rolling hills on the new roadbike today. 6 months on the MTB sure helped me out. I have more energy than I've had in years. Allergies due to pollen cut my ride short. Ride On.

Just left the clydesdale catagory...

April 23, 2006 - 198 pounds.

I need to be 190 by end of the summer; that will give me a buffer so I don't re-enter the clydesdale club over the winter...

Total loss 34 pounds since Jan 06.

CJKarl 04-23-06 09:25 PM

THis thread is the most inspiring thing I've read all day. I to am on the lose weight/get healty ride. I'm turning 44 in a couple weeks and although I'm not where i want to be weight wise. I'm ALOT healthier than I was in my 30s. I hit the gym all winter and started riding again 3 days ago. I did 15 miles on my 1st time out and was pleasently suprized at my endurance. Although I took it easy, there still only one way to get up the hills.:D I'm 6' weight lifter type and was up to 309 3 years ago. Lost about 50, gained about 30 back. I'm now heading back in the right direction. My goal is 250 by the end of summer, then go for 230. I just love riding.:D

aham23 04-25-06 11:25 AM

201.4 this week which as you can see is another 2 pounds. i keep anticipating a leveling off, but i seem to get these 1 or 2 pound drops every week. must have been my 46 mile bike ride on Saturday. My calorie intake has been creeping up, but so far so good. Later.

I never noticed this sticky....... I have been losing weight since the 1st of the year.... Was at 204 on xmas, 200 on the 1st. I started cycling seriously at the beginning of the year as well. Here is a graph of my progress. I want to hit 180 by May 14th. After that, I will reassess and decide if I want to go to 175 or lower... I kinda slacked off the last few weeks, now I am back on track, bringing my lunch, and watching intake closely.

Goal achieved!!! I finally made it to 175 lbs and beat my deadline by 1 week. I'm feeling great at 175 with 17% body fat. Sometimes it was easy to stay on track and, at other times, very difficult. You just have to stick with it and not obsess over the "falling off the wagon" days. Simply get back on track and get going again. Now I'll see if I can reach 170 lbs, but the weight is coming off very slowly now so I'll have to assess a realistic date for attaining this new goal. Keep up the good work everyone and don't give up!!

Aham looking good...Keep up the miles and you will break that 200 barrier.

I've adjusted my schedule to go to bed earlier and get up at 0530 for either a one hour bike ride or walk. It has worked. I'm down to 197-198 and I am no longer looking at 195 at the end of summer but 190. I've also adjusted my eating schedule. A high fiber breakfat at 0700, snack of yogurt with whole grain at 1100, half a sandwich at 1300, the second half at 1500, fruit snack at 1700 and a light dinner at 1800. On heavy workout days I add some Whey protien into the mix...Small meals all day and it works. The other thing that I've found by setting this type of schedule is that it keeps me reminding me of my fitness goals throughout the day.

It may not be for everyone but it works for me.

GuitarWizard 04-26-06 08:25 AM

Woohoo....down to 162.5lbs (started out at 180 last August). Only another 12 to 17 pounds to go...

Thanks Greg200, but it looks like you still got the lead! Must ride now!! I like your plan and you nailed it on the head. You just got to find what works for you. I eat early 630am, high fiber cereal, then a banana around 930am, then lunch around 1130am, then an apple or other light snack around 2pm, and finally dinner around 530-6pm. Ohyeah, and maybe some light 94% fat free white popcorn around 730pm if I need it.

I am most hungry around 11am and 3pm. My workouts normally take place late afternoon, 2-5pm. I big workout days I may endulge with a pre workout cliff bar or FRS energy drink. I have had the urge to eat more lately, but I think that is from my workouts and rides becoming more intense.

190s I hope to see you soon! Later.
