Compression leggings or calf sleeves?
My legs veins are varicose. My physician recommended compression socks. Devices that compressed just my calves would be cheaper (don't get the foot sweat or the wear from walking). Gretchen Reynolds wrote about compression sleeves last month http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/0...scle-recovery/ .
Has anyone experience with them? Can anyone recommend a brand? The largest market appears to be for unfit people, especially diabetics; they may have a different requirement. |
No experience with them. However the sleeves would seem to be more comfortable and versatile. Ultra runners very commonly wear them during events. 2XU is at least a well-known and popular brand. They have both running and recovery sleeves, the running being lighter and more breathable.

I don't wear these while riding, but I do wear them while flying (I had joint surgery and my doctor wants to protect against blood clots).
They're not super sexy but they do keep my legs from swelling like they did even pre-surgery on planes. I flew just a few weeks ago and the difference was super noticable. |

My compression sleeve of choice...... Zensah Cycling Compression Apparel - Best Compression for Cyclists
Began wearing them during marathons and half marathons and after I had a calf cramp on a bicycle ride I decided to try them out while riding. Felt great after getting used to them and no cramps but I am sure they would help for V-veins. p.s.-the use of compression items when flying or long distance driving following a running event, e.g.- marathon..... is widely regarded as being very beneficial in the prevention of clots forming. p.p.s.-also great for keeping road grime off the shins on those longer rides.....:D |
I've used these, they're light compression and easier to get on/off:
