using no way as way

Training to pull people with my rickshaw I pull a tire around and the street. This method is what a horse or donkey woould start out with when learning how to work with weight. They would eventually progress to a carriage or something. As a human, I fell i have more in common sometimes with these animals than with people, and often more respect. if you have any questions about my routine or wnat to know details let me know.
regards-
B

How did you decide to get into this line of work?

revolvepedalcab 05-20-05 09:37 AM

I have always been a power athlete. On my road bike i am suited for sprints and hill climbing. After 1yr of bike courier work i had to go back to my roots: Static tire drags and hill climbing. I think the rickshaw thing is just a natural progression, it was what i was meant to do, pull people or heavy objects.
The harness hooked up to tire idea was Borge ouslands'(nordic explorer) who used to drag tires on foot, in the summer and winter on hiking trails to train for his quests. The harness is from a company called-Acapulka-
I just adapted to my sport.
by the way, it is great off season training to drag a tire like this up a ski resort face at night using ski poles and crampons.

Pictures?

This sounds very cool. I think most people would give me very bizarre looks if I tried this on the streets. Where do you go to do your training, in the country?

Do you intend to taxi people around? Thats so cool dude! Keep us posted as to how it all works out.

I wonder if anyone trains on their bikes by dragging weights? I've considered it...

I ll get some pictures from my training log and post later. Check out my website for the business:www.icoffeecorner.com/revolvepedalcab
been doing the pedicab thing for almost 1yr to the date. That in itself is nice training as well. Almost like lifting weights.

How is that thing geared? How much human cargo can you pull on that thing? Are there hills?

*new*guy 05-20-05 12:43 PM

you must have attended the top gun school of cycling

revolvepedalcab 05-20-05 12:52 PM

It has a mtb drive train, but it has a pair of trac cogs on the other side of the hub driving the rear axle, So, actually whatever gear i am in it cuts the ratio in half. AVG speed for a working night shift 6-15 mph.
Yeah there are some hills, yes they can suck. The weight limit must be well over 1000 lbs, the most i ever took was seven people(5 inside 2 on bumper) This is not recommended though. Picture pedicab traveling in a wheelie. It can hold 2-3 adults safetly,

How does that pay?

jakemoffatt 05-20-05 03:54 PM

Does it pay per person?

What sort of tyre are you dragging? A heavy sled drag or tractor tyre drag is classic strongman training (and loads of fun if you're into that stuff)!
