The #1 Rule of Endurance Training | TrainingPeaks
Because I do a group ride every week, my CTL isn't a very smooth line, but I try to move it slowly in the right direction, whichever that is. A bump of 2-3/week works for me.
Seriously, I started this season's prep last fall with a CTL of about 50. I have it up to a little over 60 now. I'll hit a little over 70 in mid-March for a 200k. I'll recover a bit, then slowly work back up until I taper before our tour at the end of April. 80 or so has been my top CTL. If I try to push higher, I overtrain. I don't like to send my TSB lower than -30. If it's a ride I care about, my TSB needs to be around 10, more like 20 for big events, though ~0 is fine for an ordinary group ride. Like the article says, my legs feel about like what the numbers say they should. I've been using TrainingPeaks Premium since '12. It's been a big help for this self-coached rider.
Comments welcome.
Those who don't know me: I'm 71 and no great athlete. I just like to ride. I do a lot of my training on my resistance rollers in winter when I usually only get out once/week.

The simple "hack" I'm using as suggested by someone on the Zwift forum is to change the FTP value in TP before uploading. IE before I do an indoor ride I make sure my ftp in TP is set to my indoor ftp and vice versa. This keeps my PMC accurate.
