A question from the girlfriend
For a long time, my girlfriend had some really bad eating habits. Recently I've been getting her to change them. Anyway, she hadn't drank water in literally years (she said she didn't like the taste), but she now does drink it again. She mentioned to me that after she drank her first bottle of water, she was thirstier than she has ever been before.
So, her question to you guys is why did water make her so thirsty? I have some hunches, but I don't know enough about that to give her an answer.
Thanks in advance

Maybe it tasted so good she wanted more?
I honestly don't know. Thats never happened to me after drinking water. Maybe it's because she hasn't drinken water in years and her body is craving it.

I am suspicious of those single serving juices. Those have to have more bad stuff than the jugs of juice do.
She never drank milk either, said it tasted nasty.

Thats kinda weird. Milk I can understand, but water is just kinda a bland taste. Nothing really distinguishable.
Oh well, atleast she's drinking water now.

at my house 3 kinds of water are stocked...arrowhead, crystal geyser, aquafina and tap of course...
I drink the aquafina and can drink it like its beer on a hot day...it tastes fantastic. When I run out of it and have to drink arrowhead or geyser...it tasted like dirty tap water...cant stand it, dont want another drink etc... the closest I have found to aquafina is a britta filtered water thing at my girlfreinds house...tastes identical to aquafina and i can just devour it down.
Im not sure what it is but I drink 3-4 liters of aquafina a day without having to make myself drink it but if im out of it I only drink 32 oucnes of arrowhead or geiser...maybe you just gave her some good quality H2O that makes her want more.

I get "Water To Go" in any size jug I want, sealed, for 35 cents a gallon.(3.5gal is my pref but I have .5, 1, 2.5, and 5gal too[reuseable])
The dude at the local Water To Go showed me the proccess they use to filter, and what is being filtered out(eww) of the city water they use as a feeder stock. The stuff is pure when they get done, may as well be distilled, even ozone or UV sanitized(I forget which). It actually makes clear ice in my cube trays!
Anyway we have decent citywater but I can't drink it after doing the filtered thing, it just tastes like a mouth full of pool water(not to mention they're druging it now against the local peoples wishes, with floride[on teeth by a dentist=good, in drinking water=a waste, if not downright bad for you])
Back to the subject/question does she drink the water at a meal or as a stand alone?
It may just be coincidence or psycosymatic(sp)(plasibo effect) that she is thirsty. Or it is due to dehydration, or salt/electrolyte to water imbalance or a blood sugar to water imbalance. All fixable with a bit more water. Body wants water, give it water.
Some of it is adjusting to what you consume. They say beer is a bad hydrator, but if that's what your main fluid is, it is an acceptable hydrator because your body is adapted to it.

On the subject of your girlfriend she was most likely dehydrated, After years of nothing but coffee and sodas I started drinking water again and it seemed that no mater how much I put down I was always thirsty So I asked the Flight Surgeon hear on post about it and as he explained Most people have been drinking flavored and sugared drinks for so long that when water is taken in the body will push the thirst trigger into high gear to try to hydrate and flush the system of all the crap it has in it . It goes away after a while

Pop (soda, whatever you want to call it) and sugary drinks have a bite to them and when you drink them you have some sort of satisfying stimulation. Water is just water and doesn't do much to satisfy most people who are used to something else. Maybe she's just drinking and drinking and waiting for that stimulation. Maybe without the sugar she doesn't feel like she's had anything to drink. That's just my crazy theory.

i find the more water i drink the more water i feel like i need. it's weird, before i cycled i barely drank water - all my liquids were from juice, coffee, soda, milk, etc. i would literally only have to pee twice a day.
now i feel thristy quite often, and only water really satisfies me. if i drink a soda or juice for example, i always feel the need to 'wash it down' with water. the annoying part is that i have to pee every couple of hours, but i feel so much healthier and clean after guzzeling a few cups of water.

Theory.
Maybe when one gets dehydrated, the body loses more than just water such as the chemicals lost in sweating. Drinking water will not replace these chemicals. The lower chemical levels keeps the dehydration trigger turned on which keeps the indicators (thirst) turned on.
OK ... it was just theory.

i couldn't drink water with meals for a long time. i needed the "stimulation" or "bite" from soda, or coffee, etc. i've stoped drinking sodas which was the major step. it's easier to drink water the more you drink. always better for me if it's bitter cold.

I've personally gotten that "accelerated thirst" thing a few times recently, I never drank water, I drank beer! Now I drink preferably Gerolsteiner fizzy water (and they sponsor a bike team! yay!) and I got that "thirstier the more I drank" thing a couple of times too - all I can think of is, the body adjusting, flushing out stuff, etc and I needed it.
You *can* get in trouble drinking too much water, but generally it takes a few liters all at once.
