It was Thimble Island Lager from a brewery in southern CT. A drinkin' beer. And, a "guest beer" to the brewery. The burrito was good in an American way. But, not close to the Mexican food we had in a little town called San Juan Bautista in CA. Was there for a wedding this past June.

Finally got around to that Quinoa. Taste like grits. Though not surprising since it is also a grain. Albeit much more expensive, and not quite as corny.

I don't know if I'd call it a replacement for rice but it certainly would make an interesting alternative to it every now and then.

Organic Quinoa

Fried chicken

I know what you're thinking but its been over a year so its OK.

Thanks, got any recipes? Always looking for new ways to expand my palate. Doesn't have to be fancy either.

Crispy herb chicken quarter

BTW, anybody ever try a meat love's sandwich: chicken, pork loin, honey cured bacon, and ground sirloin. Maybe tomorrow's dinner?

I call this one my meat lover's sandwich. Maybe this thread should have been entitled "Sandwiches?"

That one looks really tasty. Do you eat only one ??...I could easily eat three of those in one sitting and then have one beer afterwards.

That sandwich is 1/2 ft long! Maybe I could have done a better job of revealing the chicken (you can see the end of it) and the pork sirloin hidden under the lettuce. In all, its about 3/4 lb of meat. It also has sauteed onions, mushrooms, with Swiss and cheddar cheese. You'd need a burly man's appetite to eat even two of these. Not that I doubt it can't be done, but not by me.

Did I mention I love rolled oats? I ran out of raisins but I had almonds, Granny Smith, Red delicious, plums and bananas. Chose the plums this go-round and boy did I make the right decision. Which is your favorite fruit/nuts/spice/etc. to go with oats?

🥛 Buttermilk Cornbread

Been so long since I had corn bread I'd almost forgotten the recipe. Now that I'm close to my goal weight, I get to add some of my favorites back...in moderation, of course.

Well what are you waiting for? I know the thread says "dinner" but we don't judge here. Post it next time. All you need is a clear glass.

Now that you mention it, I've got some apples (Reds and Granny) nearing the end of their freshness, so I may upload one myself. I drink at least one smoothie shake every day but their not all blended.

Most are just milk/fruit/juice and protein in a shaker. Not very special to look at. In fact, sometimes (when I forget to screw the lid on tight) it ends up all over the kitchen counter. A sticky mess to clean up. Not to mention an expensive one.

🍎 Apple Smoothie

I'll start the ball rolling with my first time apple smoothie. I was a little skeptical about hard fruit at first, but it turned out not bad. Definitely will be adding this one to my list.

🍨 Decadent Sunday Meal?

Growing up in the south Sunday's were always our family's big meal day. We'd get the pancakes or homemade biscuits in the morning and mom would start right after breakfast on that big Sunday meal. That's why I choose Sunday as my cheat meal day. Not something I'd advocate doing too often, but its OK, to indulge oneself once in a while.

After having that cornbread last week I was taken back and developed a craving for it. I made it again but this time used the buttermilk recipe. It turned out as delicious as I remembered as a kid. I love that there's 100 different ways to make cornbread.

Anyway, anybody having anything decadent today? I guess I'll fall back on my standard all-meat burger and fries? I picked up some ground sirloin that was on sale on Friday to add the chicken filet and pork tender loin I have in the fridge.

When I make the sandwich I also add sauteed mushrooms, and onions, with honey cured bacon, butter lettuce, dill pickle, tomato, and two cheeses. I eat slowly so I can really enjoy each and everyone of those flavors.

Just wish I could find some good large burger buns big enough to cover all that. Until then I'll have to stick with my toasted cracked wheat bread instead.
