Yeah, I like the texture of Greek Yogurt too. Runny yogurt sucks, IMO.
They say that milk is the perfect food ... for newborn calves that is. Supposedly it is not very healthy for humans because we have different nutritional needs from infant, grass-eating 4 legged animals that grow to be 1000 lbs in size. Could be so, but I just love the stuff, and my body seems to react to it well, especially the probiotic component. I think humans can adapt to eating a lot of different things, hopefully yogurt made from cow's milk is one of them. |
"Milk!: A 10,000-Year Food Fracas" is a good read by Mark Kurlansky for those interested along with his "Salt: A World History", "Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changed the World" and "The Big Oyster: History on the Half Shell".

I prefer the standard texture I guess. Greek texture confuses my mouth and I can't figure out if I'm supposed to chew or not.
I'm also a fan of milk, but I always buy too much and it spoils before I get through a half gallon carton. |

Some good observations.
There are no bad calories perse, just bad applications. A little bit of glucose will not hurt anyone, especially if consumed during physical exertion. But if over consumed on a regular basis it does. |
My grandma use to say keep foods in moderation and you will be ok. She was never overweight through her whole life. But yogurt to me is stil YUCK  |
I eat yogurt like it is its own food group. My favorite is Siggis! I would recommend getting a 2%, 4% or full fat kind. Actually much healthier than the non fat yogurts. Lots of protein, and I add fruit and nuts to it, it is delicious
|
You can put your soon into Siggi's Icelandic yogurt and it will stand on its own. Good stuff.

Read Dr. Campbell's, The China Study. Cornell University Nutritionist found animal proteins, especially dairy, as leading to cancer, auto-immune diseases and diabetes.

Hasn't that China study been thoroughly debunked? (Asks the vegetarian...)
|
Only by the dairy and cattle interests ;)
Read the book and decide. I've studied enough science to follow his methods of experiment and readily adopted those changes in my eating habits. Feeling much healthier along with the cycling. In the end you will pay the piper for whatever you ingest. Take a read and a look. Then, at least, you have an informed choice.... |
Humans have consumed bovine dairy for around 10,000 years. Seriously doubt it is much of a problem. If it bothers you don't eat it but don't try to feed me a line about it being a killer.
I use yogurt in my recovery protein smoothie. Other times too, but not as consistent. It does a body good. |
Greek yogurts are best per protein:carbs:fat. A few mornings a week, I'll alternate between oatmeal/bananas and healthy cereal/blueberries/yogurt [both mixed]. Yogurt can improve other foods, too. When I have plain Greek yogurt available, I'll substitute it for butter in recipes. Which brands? My current budget makes selecting yogurt based on what's on sale, but usually only Greek varieties. And then the bargain grocery store offers a rotating selection. I prefer the plain for nutrition values, but sometimes what is available has less protein, more carbs and more fat in exchange for flavor.

Says another vegetarian. Actually, I take that back. I don't eat dinosaurs or mammals. That's commonly understood as vegetarian, but not vegan. |
I eat it almost every morning and will usually dip my cliff bars in it lolz. It's like the only thing that I can eat in the morning without having to run to the bathroom right before class.

Greek yogurt FTW!

Reading this thread made me hungry and so right now I'm eating unflavored Siggy's 0% yogurt very generously topped with Nutella.
Just felt like saying that. -Tim- |
