Mountain bike as Road Bike

Because I am on vacation all I can do in the next 6 weeks in terms of cycling is to train with a somewhat old moutain bike. The good news is that there are some pretty good rolling hills in my area. Can anyone please help me to come up with a training plan or suggestions on how to train. Thanks a lot.

I think the key question is ... what are you training for? What do you want to accomplish - build strength, speed, stamina, all three?

Just get out and ride. I ride my MTB on my commute to work on days when rain is in the forecast. Other than the fact that it is a little slower (due mostly to rolling resistance), I see no difference in the workout. I'd say do your workout based on time, rather than distance. If you would normally go out and ride a 30 miler on your road bike in 2 hours, then go out for 2 hours on the MTB. It might only be 20 miles or so, but it's the time that really counts, IMHO.

Good luck!

As far as the actual training just do whatever gets the heart pumpin but what I recommend is 26x1 inch slick tires. They turned my specialized hardtail into a rocket on pavement.

I was wondering the same thing.(Time vs. Miles) I think that although there are some technique/position differences between the bikes, pushing pedals is pushing pedals. I'm using my MTB to get to a more road bike friendly weight.(21 lbs in 3 weeks with a lot more to go) And since I am just now getting back into riding after 5-6 years off. I've been using training tips from road cycling books (plus it was all I could find at the local library)
