http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci..._31336,00.html
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci..._31335,00.html they taste really good and are dirt cheap compared to store bought. They had all the number breakdowns on the show but they don't in the recipe. |
Looks like another winner from Alton Brown! I'll give it a try.
Thanks for the link! |
Man by the time you buy all those ingredients... $$ :D
|
I had all of them at home so it works for me. if you had to go out and buy them all I guess it would be more expensive

How about just rice crispie treats?
You can add fruits, or nuts, or power gel as flavoring. And you get the same long chain carbs as the rice syrup that most gels are made of. Plus there's some fiber in your diet. An added plus if you don't like the gastronomic side effects of a solid fruit and gel diet. |

QUOTE] the last recipe on the page is for a more nutritious rice crispie bar with nuts and fruit |
my quick recipe is:
melt together in sauce pan: 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup peanut butter 3/4 cup honey Remove from heat, add 2 cup Protein Powder 4 cups granola. Pour it all in a 9x9in pan, toss in the fridge. The quickest and easiest recipe. Most people have all the ingredients at home as it is. |
wow, my arteries are screaming from reading that

what is real peanut butter?
sounds exciting |

The only thing I was dissappointed with was him using marshmallows for his brown rice krispie treats. I know I know, rice krispie treats have marshmallows, but all that refined sugar..eek. Funny thing is i spend close to 70 bucks at Whole Foods just to get the ingredients to make the rice cripsy squares and protein bars. The Flax Seed oil was easily the most expensive item on the list. Of course alot of this expenditure is bulk items. The only single use item i got was the 12.4 oz pkg of Silken Tofu. Time will tell if its really cheaper to make than store bought, but if the rice crispy squares are any indication, the taste and palitablity is worth the expense. |
I would like to see the nutritional info though. :(

Those rice crispy treats go down good on a ride. They get nice and soft in the back pocket of the jersey. I wrap them in Reynolds non-stick foil so its easy to get unwrapped on the move.
|
I finally made the protein bars on Friday and tried them out on a brutal 65 mile ride on Saturday. They taste great. But, while i'm quite sure they helped get me home, they are not ideal on the bike food. They are too heavy and very hard to eat. I didnt get sick from them or cramps, but they require lots of fluids to get them down. Best to leave them for a post ride snack and keep the rice cripsy treats for an on the bike food.

Flax seed oil from organic stores a hi price rip off to me IMO(no humbling here thank you). either buy flax seeds in grocery dept many supermarkets and add whole to get added fiber, or sometimes supermarkets will have flax seed oil near rice depts. I have seen it in Publix stores in FLA for 1/4 price
I leave in 3 weeks to do KILI and plan to take sev pounds of my own glop mixture with me.Sorta spread the word bout p-nut butter world wide I stay away from any cereal with sugar in it prefer to add raisin, nuts or honey Plus I don't have any aversion to using BUTTER the original, from the cows, type. Julia Child used it all her life and she was 92 and non alzheimer when she died, so..good enuf for her good enuf for me, ever tried croissants made with a substitute? Or an old fashioned pie crust? or Bananas Foster? gotta have the real thing End of current rant |
