Started taking an egg protein powder and cross training

... I think the brand is Cell-Tech or somehting, it's 100% egg white protein powder I got a Vitamin Shoppe...

I started taking 1 scoop with milk right after my workouts and I'm recovering so much faster now, before my legs would be sore for days, but I've been feeling fresh by the following morning.

I'm also cross-training between cycling and running (every other day). I feel much better than when I was just cycling.

Protein is OK. I like Endurox R4 with some glutamine added after a workout. Try a carb drink with protein and glutamine during your workout too. You can add protein to anything by using Knox Unflavored Gelatin. It's all protein.

Gelatin is pretty worthless actually. It IS a type of protein, but its biological value is basically Zero since its seriously lacking in every essential amino acid (it's an entirely incomplete protein). For post-workout nutrition, whey protein would be an even better choice than egg. Whey has a biological value higher than egg, and is the fastest absorbing type of protein there is. Many brands have added BCAA's to for muscle recovery/growth. For every gram of protein post-workout, take about 2 grams of carbohydrates with it, as carbs shuttle protein to the muscles.

I can't take whey protein because it gives me d----a. I tried it back in the year 2000 when I was weight training and it messed up my guts big time.

I just stick to Egg Albumen powder now.

my post ride quencher/protein stab is 8oz water, 5-10 ice cubes, 8 oz 1%milk, one heaper scoop whey powder. shake it up for a bit, let it sit for a few minutes and down it goes. ice cold chocolatey, not sweet, not thick, a bunch of protein (around 20grams) and it quenches like only milk can.. (whats with that milk anyway, how is it so good?)

I look forward to that so much on the last hill of my ride!

Egg protien makes me gassy...and quite bloated...so does whey. Gotta go with the soy for me. I take two scoops of shaklee brand and whizz it up with about 6 oz of low calorie cranberry juice, a handful of frozen blueberries, strawberries and half of banana for sweetness. If I have yogurt I'll throw in a container of the low fat kind (usually strawberry/banana). That's what I have for breakfast. Although lately I've been having cereal...naughty girl!

where is a good place to shop for either egg protein or whey protein?

For now to save money I was thinking to just hard boil eggs and toss the yoke. and what is a good source of carbohydrates if I don't want or can't afford the bottled stuff?

Ohh and I can get all natural peanut butter, fresh ground raw blanched peanuts no salt. I love peanut butter so what will that give me ??

carbs = bread.

I got a 6lb tub of whey protein from costco for $26. Way cheaper than what I bought at an actual fitness/health food store.

Trader Joe's, if it's in your area.
