The announcer said they had been at the ranch for 3 months (from the end of February) and then hadn't seen each other for 5 months. One woman lost 60 during that 3 months and then 30 during the 5 months at home . . . which works out to 6 pounds a month at home, very realistic.

They must have really been under a 'doctor supervised diet' while they were at the ranch. People who check themselves in to places like Pritikin report those dramatic amounts when they have over 50 pounds to lose to begin with . . . which is most obese people. I think it's a whole different situation for those of us who have 10 - 20 pounds to lose.

probably the big thing is the change in lifestyle... some of these people went from no exercise, eating junk food and living totally sedentary lifestyles to eating healthy and exercise and actually seeing a doctor. It's not just diet, as we all know- it's a huge change in lifestyle.
.
I remember one of them went into the pool and said he'd never gone swimming- how's that even possible? I figure every kid knows how to swim. I know it sounds terrible but i am amazed that people get to this point. I don't mean everyone has to be Lance Armstrong or wear a size 2 but it's the indulgence that amazes me. I can't beleive the amounts of bad food. It's a real indictment of our society, that's for sure.

I wondered about that too when I first moved to the Midwest (USA) but then it's not that uncommon.

AH HAH! That's more like it! Working out steadily for 3-5 months will definitely allow you to lose that amount. I've been averaging 4-6-lbs a month since January, so people doing this full-time shouldn't have any problems. I just didn't buy the "1-week" thing.

Heh, you would be surprised. For example, grownups who can't swim who don't wear life jackets on their $25,000 boats.

My wife is just learning how to swim. None of her family swims. Of her four sisters, only one married someone who can swim.

As a junior in high school, I lost 13lbs in less than 36 hours for wrestling. I went from 143 with very little body fat, to 129.9, with next to nothing in terms of fat, and pretty dehydrated. 9% of my body weight at 143, gone.

It's one thing to take FAT off, its another thing entirely to just hop on a scale and be healthy with your weight loss.

It is doable if you really want to loose that much weight, but you will not feel really well.

Lost 5 pounds in a cold 70 mile ride with more than 15 pounds of stuff in my bag. I was shivering because the effort and the cold.
