- just sitting down after a nice long ride today... fixed a snack food plate, but was wondering what other folks thought of as a favorite mixed plate?

- mine may be a tad offbeat, but for some reason the mix appeals to the palate:

sliced 5-inch dills
asagio cheese
jalapeno-marinated green olives and carrots
smoked octopus

- bon appetit!

Smoked octopus? I could never compete in your league.

It sounds good, but not after a ride. Where are the carbs? I need some freakin' carbs! I would eat something like that after the giant bowl of pasta or rice or whatever but after a ride I need to recharge with a carbolicious meal, pasta or rice or something like that.

I have a cracker thing that is also kind of off-the-wall, but is very tasty: Rye Triscuits + Gulden's Spicy Brown mustard + limburger (or other sufficiently stinky) chese + braunschweiger (liver sausage) + onions. Put all that stuff on the Triscuit and chew it up in one big bite. Mmmmm. Only need a few though.

Another one is Oyster Poppers. Put a little cream cheese on a Ritz cracker. Then put a smoked oyster on top of that. Sprinkle a little tabasco over the whole mess and pop it in your mouth. Sounds gross as hell, but they're really good, honest. Again, a little goes a long way.

- first one sounds very good (love braunschweiger)...

- i am *definitely* going to try the oyster poppers! (in fact, have two boxes of Triscuits on hand - they were on sale 2 for $4 last week)

- tks!

You have salt and protein, which are two of the things I want after a ride. Wash it down with a couple of glasses of beer and you'll get all the carbs you need.

Are the carrots marinated with the olives and jalapeno? Because I think I will leave that one to you.

It's all a matter of perspective, my dear boy. Some can't handle these kinds of goodies

BTW, linux_author, the oyster poppers are on Ritz, not Triscuit. And the braunschweiger thingies are on *Rye* Triscuits. The regular ones will do in a pinch, but the Rye put it over the top. Might as well do it up

Let me know how much you like them (notice, not "if").
