Spinach popsicles!

I'm going to have my tonsils out Dec 18th, and I'm planning way ahead in the food department. Cuz I'm anal like that :D I don't want to live off ice cream, jello, and popsicles for a week or two, so I'm trying to collect recipes! Please make up something, I don't care if it's gross even as long as it's cold, vegetarian, not acidic (no citrus fruits), and has more nutritional value than ice cream! Ooh..and probably shouldn't have little sharp pieces like raspberry seeds. One idea I had was to liquify spinach and freeze it. Maybe add something to it to make it less nasty. Let's get creative (like making mud pies for adults...)!

Liquefied spinach. I don't have words to express how revolting that sounds.

Frozen fruits are going to be your best friends, as is frozen yogurt. Smoothies made out of chocolate frozen yogurt, soymilk, and whey protein power are great cycling fuel and ice-cold.

There's always flußiges Brot for carbohydrates (that's German for "Beer"). ;)

Save yourself the hassle. Go to the baby food department of the grocery store and load up on all kinds of pureed foods.

Freeze it into cubes if you want, but I would just stick a straw into it and be back on solid food in three days.

good stuff!!! Much less nasty than spinachpops!

Hey Nat, Sorry to hear that you need surgery, but I think I've got an answer. Why not come "hashing" with earleybird and I then it won't matter what you eat - pointed edges or not. Oh geez I sure hope I've got this hashing thing right. Earleybird where are you?! -Yvonne

Natophelia 09-26-02 01:03 PM

Hashing? That has something to do with dubedubedoooooo? I'm hoping the high-street-value pain pills will keep me knocked out for the first couple days!!! My problem is that I lose weight too easily in situations like that, and it takes me longer than usual to get my energy back. That's why I'm wiggin' about the food situation. Hopefully I'll have lots I can eat after surgery and am planning to make the rounds and pack it in during Thanksgiving! Man, I hope I can get nice and big when I get really old or the first time I get sick, I'm toast!!

I believe (unless earleybird is willing to set the record straight) that "hashing" is riding from pub to pub. I'm still waiting for earleybird to clarify this from an early post.

On a more serious note- I was given a deck of cards with smoothie recipies on one side and a picture of the finished product on the other. Yum Yum, you can make them good and healthy or as bad for you as you want. :D

mmmm...gimme gimme!!

Hello: Sorry to hear of your tonsils coming out. Many years ago, actually, 1992, I had my jaw brought forward. Then, they wired me shut for 8 long weeks!!!!! The physician that did the surgery, made me take nutritional classes prior to the surgery as a pre requisite. I actually learned a lot and believe me did not starve. I went thru Thanksgiving, as well as Christmas and News Year eve. You can eat anything you like (for the most part) Mix it with equal parts of water/milk to liquify i.e. potatoes, milk, squash, lentils. place in food processor and Drink, enjoy. Smoothies are great!!!!!!!! Baileys Irish cream and french vanilla ice cream is a big hit! LOL. Going to web sites for orthonathic surgery recipes will be helpful. Speaking to people like myself that have gone thru this also helps!!!!!! I will look into more for you and try to help! Good luck. If you like, I will give you my e-mail address. Praying for a quick recovery!!!!!!!:D

Well... you could always do the Mediterranean thing and go with some hoummous. I'm not sure how COLD it'd be, but it's veggie and smooth... while you're at it, you could enjoy some couscous. Hell, a couscous salad with some of your favourite greens and veggies would probably be pretty digestible. No sharp corners on couscous. I won't recommend tabouleh, sice it can be pretty acidic...

On the other hand, if you go to your grocery store asking for couscous, hoummous and tabouleh, you'll probably be arrested these days...

Do they still do tonsilectomies? I haven't heard of anyone having them out in twenty years!

Natophelia 09-30-02 07:59 AM

Thanks Ginger. I can't look at that website at work for some reason so I'll try to check it out at home. Velocipedio, that's sounds good, too. Luckily I have a big healthfood store near me that has all that! Really I should have had the damn things out years ago, but it hasn't been the trendy thing to do for years like you said. I haven't been able to fight off upper respiratory problems for years without heavy antibiotics, and my doc finally took a look at my tonsils and said HEY! Maybe it's the tonsils!! Right-o doc; I've only been saying that myself since I was 13  Ah well...it's gonna be done! It's a gamble on wether it's going to help with the UR stuff, but who cares. I want em gone! BYE BYE!! :D And I'm gonna eat popsicles like crazy and sleep alot! Wheehoo!!
