what do you eat when you are hungry?

Everyone knows that when you are fit, you get more hungry. I sometimes eat 2 decent meals a day with about 5 small snacks during the day. As im typing this, im hungry. What do you eat when you are hungry? I tend to eat oranges and bananas when im hungry. I can go through 6 oranges and 4 bananas a day easily. Is this too much fruit?

Thats not necessarily too much fruit as long as you combine it in small frequent meals also containing complex carbs,protein,and fats.For example when I'm hungry (and even if I'm not)I'll fequently have blended shakes comprised of water,whey protein,two fruits(oranges and bananas sound great)and peanut butter,coconut,flax or cream as a fat source.Try to eat some vege's in salads etc. to though.

i heard if i take protien shakes when i dont work out can turn it into fat. is this true?

Even thought i bike aggressively to the point where my legs hurt the next day, is it okay to take protien shakes even though i didnt do a full body workout.

Well I know I ate TONNES more when I was overweight and depressed than anyone who works out or is in shape (exluding heavy weight bodybuilders).

I usually drink a milk or soy milk based protein shake. Protein and milk fill me up 'ok' and being high in protein take a lot longer to digest leaving me filled longer Fruit is empty calories and isn't filling at all. Besides that I avoid carbs quite a bit espeically late at night when I am hungriest.

Carbs are actually more easily converted too fat than protein .The key is not too eat a great exess of calories in any form over what you expend.Protein and fats have other necessary functions in addition to energy production while carbs are solely an energy source and you should only eat enough carbs too top off your glycogen(muscle energy)stores and no more or it goes straight to fat.

I generally eat a lot of passionfruit, but that's mainly because I grow it.

i eat 3-4 "meals" per day and then 2-4 snacks per day... when i'm really training i eat every 2-3 hours (i'm about to go buy 2 yogurts and a bread pretzel here at 3:30pm at work)

common snakcs:
* yogurt
* muesli/cereal w/ milk (also my breakfast meal where i eat 3 large bowls)
* nutella/peanut butter sandwiches
* fruit - particularly bananas

i heard if i take protien shakes when i dont work out can turn it into fat. is this true?

Even thought i bike aggressively to the point where my legs hurt the next day, is it okay to take protien shakes even though i didnt do a full body workout.
as someone else said, as long as you're burning more calories (through exercise and muscle rebuilding) than you eat, not really... (unless you're trying to be a body builder and maintain REALLY low body-fat like sub 8%)

and it doesn't matter if it's "full" body or not --- the legs and butt comprise a large portion of the body's muscle

you can't "spot train" fat --- you body stores a certain amount and pretty much just chooses where to put it which varies for each person (stomach, thighs, neck, back, arms, etc.)

as long as you're working out a whole lot (like 4+ times per week), worry more about the quality than quantity... personally, my biggest problem is LOOSING too much weight (i'm 6'1" and 160lbs)

Super noodles - if you dont have them in ur country they are just flavoured noodles, chicken, bbq beef etc that you add hot water too.

A couple off bananas and oranges a day ussually, and a few apples maybe.

I tend to eat a lot of grapes as snacks. Sometimes a handful of peanuts helps. Once in a while I'll toast a piece of multi-grain bread.

Don't forget dehydration as a source of hunger. Most dehydration is actually masked as hunger. Make sure you are drinking enough water.

I personally don't think its too much fruit. I try to get 3-4 pieces of raw fruit a day and 3-4 raw veggies. When I do I feel better. Plus I think 5 peices of fruit beats a candy bar or two.

Like Willic I'm always hungry.
When I was at school ( don't go there!) I was put on a piggery table with other `pigs' because we eat everything including other peoples food that they didn't want.
ie breakfast was Half packet cornflakes and a pint of milk followed by 4-6 eggs and triple portions of sausage, bacon, toms beans etc. But I never put on fat just growth and muscle
I'm sure this is why I am always fighting my weight problem now because I still eat all the time but don't get half the exercise and my metabolism is much slower

( pause.. whilst I go and fix muisli and marmalade sandwiches)...

Ive been drinking less water than i usually do. i used to drink about 3 liters a day. but now that im too busy, i dont find the time to filter and boil the water. but i guess ill start back up on that if i want to loose more weight.

I have to agree about tap water. I never ever drink it without boiling it. ie for tea, coffee etc
When you read about all the dangerous nitrates and chemicals and metals that get into it (even at the water treatment plants) I would never recommend anyone take the risk.

In Cornwall SW England a few years ago a whole community was poisened and dozens of people were left with permanant brain damage

I always drink bottled spring water but I'm not even sure thats always safe.

If you find it unpalatable try the sparkling variety I can drink gallons of the stuff and always feel refreshed too.

the only downside of bottled water is that its pricey and that it doenst contain florine. tap water contains it and its what protects your teeth from enamel damage.

You can actualy buy bottled water with florine, look in the baby isle of most grocery stores. But on average if you look at different studies done, tap water is better for you then bottled water. This is not always true, but a good percent of the time.

Getting far afield from cycling, but those of us that live in the boonies and drink well or spring water don't get flouride, either.
[US content]
If you want floride use an ADA approved toothpaste with flouride, and if that's not enough, afterwards use a flouride rinse, available in pharmacies and grocery stores. Personally, I prefer flouride that I don't have to swallow.
