Recovering from stomach/GI Virus - Work out or rest?

Warning... a bit gross, but relevent, mentioning of bodily functions below

I caught a nasty stomach/gastrointestinal virus this past weekend. Terrible vomitting and diahhrea. It has passed (it seems) at this time, but it's only been a day since I wasn't able to keep food or fluids in my system.

I've been able to eat heartily without queasiness or otherwise just starting with this morning's breakfast and have had some fruit later in the morning. I feel fine now. How much time do I need to regain full strength, in general?

Any idea how I can recover to start riding the trainer and running the treadmill without hurting myself? Should I wait a few days before pushing things with high RPM intervals or hill/speed intervals on the treadmill?

After a bout like that, what's the rule of thumb on working out? Or is it just a case of take it easy for a few days until my body has recovered fully?

Thanks,

Let your body tell you. If you feel up to it, start with some light spinning on the trainer and go from there. Don't overwork yourself. Since you haven't been holding down nutrition, you are likely to be low on glycogen and weak. After a day or two of normal eating, you should bounce back.

you can just do some base miles.
always ask yourself, will this workout help me in the long run or am i just going through the motions. if you feel like crap then stop. There are plenty of healthy days when i shouldn't be on the bike as well.
