what's been working for me before a crit is to do a heavy training ride two days before the event, rest day, then spin for a couple hours with a couple hard efforts the day before.

be sure to get food and/or supplements an hour after training to realize the benefits of your training.

get really good restful sleep two night before an event. the night before doesn't help as much for some reason.
