Indoor Cycling Question
Hello,
I have recently purchased my first road bike (a 2003 Giant OCR2), and absolutely love it! I am also training indoors at the gym, and recently got into the grueling spin class. I want to bring my bike shoes in so that I don't have to use the strapped side of the pedals, but, to save myself the embarassment... :) Do these pedals use the same clips as my road bike will have, or do I need a new plate for them to work properly? |
What pedals/cleats do you have right now?
|
Depends on the pedals/cleats you use.
Spin bikes generally use SPD cleats, like those on many mountain bike pedals. They look like this: |
Most spin bikes use SPD cleats. But I have seen some with look cleats and others with the old fashioned toe clips.
I would suggest you stop by your LBS and look at the SPD pedals and then look at your spin class pedals. If the cleats you use on your bike are not compatable, it is easy enough to buy a pair of inexpensive bike shoes and put SPD cleats on them (if those are the ones used at your spin class and that is probably the case). |
Those displayed in the above picture look VERY similar to what I have. I also read that my Giant OCR2 (2003) came with SPD pedals...does this sound odd? Sorry, until now, I didn't know there was a difference between them (and really wanted to avoid walking into class tonight and not being able to click in :) )

Just call your gym and ask -- that way you'll know for sure...
enjoy your new ride! |
