Hey, what team are you joining? That sounds cool.

But yeah, I agree. From experience, start way way way slow. So slow it looks like there's something wrong with you. You'll feel like you're just wasting time, at first, if you're doing it right. And don't run far, either. Just work up very very slowly. Otherwise, you will hurt, you won't progress, you will get discouraged, and quit. Which has happened to me.

There are some excellent websites that offer all kinds of advice on running and I would recommend doing a little search, and read up. Get some good running shoes though. It doesn't matter what kind as long as they're decent and made for running. Running in Vans or Chuck Taylors will ruin your knees and make you grouchy.

I'm just about to start taking it up again. Wish me luck too.

My question is.....What the hell are we going to do when it gets cold around here. I can't sit on my butt all winter like last year. And I HATE gyms, so spinning classes are out. I don't think I have the patience for a stationary bike. And I am a terrible skier, and couldn't afford it anyway. I just plain hate being cold.

i know, winter. . . eeewwww. i plan on riding on through it though. Haha, i actually took off to school at 5:30am this morning and had to put on long underwear. i made sure to breathe EXTRA hard whenever a car passed just to show them how bad@ss i am i hate gyms, they are stale and boring, but i've started to make myself go 3 times a week. i just keep thinking about my end goal and it motivates me to keep going.

Yeah, everything i've heard says to start slowly, but i have such a hard time with not pushing myself. i like to FEEL that i'm getting something done. But, i guess that discipline isn't just about pushing things to the max eh?

i'm not quite sure what team i'll join. i was thinking i'd try to join the Cutthroat team, however i don't know. i definitely do not have anything set in stone at the moment. Maybe we could motivate each other to run eh Al?

Running is a good way to help boast your cardio system and endurance but nothing helps cycling like cycling. Running uses different sets of muscles.

Being in Salt Lake City, you can easily train year round. My advice is get a good guide to training, read through it, and start a program.

What he said. What's this running business? It sounds like you could use an organized training program. I recently started with this book based on recommendations here, so nothing to report yet other than it seems like a pretty good program.
